| I voted abstain - what I would rather have is a recognisable protest vote though. X - None of the above |

| dont really feel there is anybody worth voting for but i wouldnt abstain because too many people have given their lives to ensure we had the freedom to vote. as far as i can see the only socialist in the labour party is Gordon Brown working class and proud of it. just realized who to vote for RESPECT party

I do like the idea of a recognised protest vote, rather than simply handing the vote to someone who's marginally less bad than the others. But I have no idea what they'd do if the "Protest Votes" won the election!

I subscribe to the view that if you don't vote, you have no right to whinge, complain or judge the part that eventually gets in. Voting is not a priviledge IMHO, it is a duty.

| I'll probably get flamed for this but the Conservatives need to be given another chance. I know, I know. Whats-his-face is a wet blanket of a leader and doesn't have the charisma of a Tory Blair, but we need a change if only to remind all politicians that they can't rest on their laurels. Labour have done only one good thing since they came to power and that is handing over control of interest rates to the Bank of England. Everything else they've done has increased taxes without providing any recognisable difference in our lives. It seems to me that the previous conservative government were brought down due to their mistakes, but teflon Tony seems to get away with murder (figuratively speaking of course). Now, is there a way to submit this post anonymously?? No? Oh well, here goes!

I deliberately didn't mention any party allegiance or support in my post. My post is in support of the democratic process. If you don't vote, you have no right to complain about the elected government. Lots of people in Tower Hamlets complained when Derek Beacon was elected, and when challenged, admitted that they had not gone to vote. There's a saying I've heard, and used, in business and personal life. If you keep doing what you are doing, you will keep getting what you are getting. That applies in politics. Your 1 vote may make the difference between a BNP candidate or someone else. If you didn't vote, you are guilty of letting that candidate get in. That is why voting is a duty and not a privilege.
