Some politician bloke has just been on the radio saying to stay where you are and all londons transport has been disabled.

The police have confirmed some deaths.

3 other stations have been closed as security measures after finding a package, a suitcase and a suspect person.

thoughts and prayers with all the families affected

He will need to be briefed fully on what is known and what is conjecture, what arrangements have been put in place, what the police/forces will do now etc. before he goes on TV - which will take time. It is therefore not a surprise that he has put off speaking until lunchtime - it would have been knee jerk and inappropriate for him to speak sooner.
From following various media sources there is a lot of conflicting information out there - it is vital that any 'speech' relating to this 'action' is based on fact and not supposition or rumour.

A very noticable lack of aircraft flying into/out of London at the moment.

My brother in law (Surrey Paramedic) helped put together the emergency plan They had all those exercises in London - it looks like they did some good after all.

Under the face of adversity the English people always seem to gel into reacting in the right way and not just reacting.

Nice we can get something right.

Met police chief is saying that they want people to stay put at the moment. Also that they got not warning of the blasts.

The Chief Constable (Sir Ian Blair?) has been on the radio asking for everyone to remain where they are. There are security and as well as emergency service reasons for this.

If everyone is trying to get out you cannot move the emergency services and people get concentrated into choke points, which must be avoided.

If you watch it on the TV you can see that the experts are being able to move around, this is essential.

Edit: I've been involved in some of this stuff during 5 years in NI.

Gatwick still has a few flights coming or going, but I'm out in the sticks.
Called my mum to let her know I was safe, even though she knows I don't go into London often she still worries.

thoughts & prayers with anyone affected, having lived & nursed in Northern Ireland, watching the news is bringing back many memories

These were 'zero-warning attcks'.

Not everyone will agree with this post, but it is the nature of a forum to submit what's on your mind - and yes, this is my own speculation at the moment....

Who did it?

The Irish? Doubt it. They've more to lose than gain (when was that never the case?) and as long as Bush is in the Whitehouse with his War on Terrosim mantra, and the Robert McCartney murder aside, they won't fart out of key.

The French (for losing the Olympic bid)? Shades of the Rainbow Warrior? Doubt it. A tad extreme merely for losing the games. Could also be construed as an act of War and France, as a country, couldn't afford ($$) to mobilise over what is only a matter of a decision that went against them. Indeed, they'd be more vilified globally than Bush for his war in Iraq if it was the French.

The Eco/Anarchist movement
to hit the G8? Possibly - elements of their bretheren certainly have the where-with-all. Bad move and would only damage their cause - but when has that ever stopped them before?

Al Qaeda? Out of the choices on offer, perhaps the most likely. Easy 'walk-on' targets like the Madrid train bombs, where bombs could be left and the perps simply get off at the next stop after setting the timer or dialing the number if it's a phone-tone triggered device. Also, the zero-warning aspect puts this in their MO. They also have the organisation to carry this out.

Just heard the Met's Commissioner (Sir Ian Blair) say that London's entire transport network has been brought to its knees and please DO NOT travel in London today.

COBRA's in session and they'll report in due course.

God's rest to those killed and thoughts and prayers with the injured.
