| Lou, lets all not lose our sense of humour here though, as much as none of us like what is going on in the world today, we do have to carry on with our everyday lives. Unfortunately they are reporting that 2 britons are amongst the fatalities, we all hope that anyone connected with YD members check in safe and well. They are reporting that this is a direct strike on the Egyptian government and their tourist industry, we have to face up that some people don't agree with westerners drinking and enjoying themselves on arab soil (this has been mentioned this morning). |

| What is striking me about this is that although we are all more likely to know someone out there due tot he vast numbers of divers, this year, more that ever before, it is is beach resort too. I was just talking to a manager at work the other day, who was asking me about Sharm as they had booked to go next week (I think) on a last minute deal. One of Caroline's workmates is either out there of came back on Thursday - we don't know which, and I am sure many people are in the same boat. It is such a large, concentrated resort now that alot of people are going tobe concerned about folks until into next week when flights arrive back etc.

| I have just looked at some pictures on the BBC site, it is terrible. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_pictures/4709795.stm So many of those killed were just doing their job or living their lives. I feel so saddened by all of this. We need PEACE in our world!

| Yes agreed. And at least the tour operators have responded well this morning, if people are due to fly today, tomorrow or monday then they can get a full refund if they want. Normally they will only offer this if the FO say there is a problem. |

No written orders were ever issued, but the head cop on the ground received 'words' from on high that there were to be no survivors when these people were cornered in the caves, as they eventually were. Summuary justice was thought to serve the gov't's purpose and send a clear message to any other group thinking of carrying out any similar acts. Take care Simon and keep your head down.

| Now thats my kind of justice. Fiona - Im with you - didnt have a clue what Bren was on about. I like a simpler approach - stick of dynamite up their arse with a long fuse so they can watch it get closer and closer........ Sorry folks.....just my personal view.

Sharm represents the only chance for young Eqyptians to get work and have a life style and way of life that had been previousily unavailable. This act of terrorism had nothing to do them with getting at the West, which is obvious from the demographic of the casualties from last nights atrocity. They are trying to shut the area's income, so creating an environment which act as a catalyst for terrorism. They can get more young disaffected youths to act as their trigger men that way and create resentment of the current regime. Its no accident that the Presidential elections are coming up (and Mubarak known to have a private residence in the area), this atrocity was obviousily designed to affect the outcome of these elections. |

| Do we actaully know the demographics? As far as i can tell not alot has been confirmed. Granted the bomb in Old Sharm, apparently at the market place taxi rank, may have been directed at Egyptians but bombing hotels in Na'ama bay is a pretty strang way to target locals. Now they may have come off badly, but I don't think we can easily draw conclusions about who was the intended target or why.
