Barstewards

We have just received and email stating that all our internet usage will be directed through NI at Wapping and that we will now be blocked from accessing certain sites although I am hoping YD isn't one of them.

They have blocked access to hotmail though, which means I can't use messenger at work anymore - bugger

They block access to Hotmail and Messenger here too but a quick look on our IT Dept's internal newsgroup gave us the workaround.

I'm guessing that the IT bods are subject to the same limitations as us due to our firewall, but they build in loopholes for their own nefarious purposes. I know of at least one server owned by them that has 500GB of MP3s and films on it!

Which company do you work for again Fiona? I feel a bit of blackmail coming on to prevent emails being sent to the IT department to block a web site that promotes a shocking waste of work time ...........

Yes, unfortunately a sign of the times, some of my favorite sites now appear with a large NO ENTRY sign. If they discosver YD or Ebay, there's a danger I'll have to do some work!!

I'm quite lucky, I can at least see YD from here, all the other stuff is 'websensed' out.

Shopping, new and current affairs, government based sites like FCO are all banned!!!!!

Great init, the new world, they want you to embrace it then take it all away, mardy I call it.

Anyway 'mum' you should be posting on the GSS thread

That goes for you too Paul

I love working for a university. I called the IT bloke about a problem with my computer the other day and he arrived while I was in the lab (not at my computer). He closed IE windows with Ebay, YD and conversation on Hello with SWMBO and then got on with what he was doing. I turned up and the conversation went along the lines of "it is not good to have so many windows open", no mention of the non-scientific content of them!
