| I've just watched the Beeb and seen an 82yr-old being ejected from the Labour Party conference for heckling Jack Straws speech. I'm sorry folks, I've tried to avoid political comments on YD (no problem with personal ones though) but this is the last Straw - no pun intended. I've stood up for my country, had blast bombs, petrol bombs and snipers rounds directed at me (us) and taken it with a big smile - not some heroe's statement - I know others on this site have seen worse. But did I do all this to see some meat-head gorillas drag a man who fled Nazi tyrany treated in such a way? Has the UK become so intollerent? I aint takin this one lying down and if others are upset by what they saw I suggest you send a message to: http://www.faxyourmp.com and tell your MP what you think. |

| What a surprise! Looks like the Labour obsession with control has spread to the interweb as well!! " Sorry! Something's gone wrong. Sorry, we do not currently have contact details for this representative(Margret Moran), and are unable to send them a message. EDIT: Oh well, just have to wait till the next election to send Labour my message.

| well said ron, this really takes the biscuit, Labours obsession with control, no one, not even a man who has been a member for over 50 years, is allowed to voice his opinion, which does not agree with his tonyness.

| This is what I've sent: Email: inspired-arts@uk2.net Wednesday 28 September 2005 Dear Mr Watts, I've just watched the news channels to see an 82yr-old being ejected from the Labour Party conference for heckling Jack Straws speech. Sorry but not even Alastair Campbell could make a teflon purse out of this sow's ear. I've stood up for my country, had blast bombs, petrol bombs and snipers rounds directed at me (and taken it with a big smile) thats what we did But did I do all this to see some meat-head gorillas drag a frail old man who fled Nazi tyrany treated in such a way? Has the UK become so intollerent they can't except the word "nonesense"? And irony upon irony if I don't see Ian McCarthy making an appology - Mr "stop the bouncer thugs" defending your own! I hope the bouncer enjoyed his cake - incidentally was he a long lost relative of Marie Antinette? I hope you can rest easy Mr Watts but I will no longer be voting Labour while this arrogance persists. Yours sincerely, Ron Mahoney |

You lot can agree or disagree and say what you like about Thatcher and her politics, but at least she actively courted comment and critcism from anyone - from both within and without her party, and she gave as good as she got; whereas what we've been treated to, over the last 8 years of Blair's one-trick pony menagerie gov't, is chromium-plated, red ribbon-tied, air-brushed and sanitised for the public's consumption, dogshit rapped in silver paper spin of the school of Alistair Campbell Esq. - and boy does it suck donkeys. The problem is, they actually think we're all as thick as they think we are. More fool them. Two world wars getting us to a place where we can enjoy certain freedoms - and Labour gorillas grapple an 82 year old from his seat (along with another chap who was trying to prevent them) and then manhandle him out of the building just for shouting "Nonsense, that's a lie!" when Straw was giving an address on Iraq?? Piss-poor. I'm quite sure Jack Straw could have weathered 'abuse' like that even if Satan himself had farted it in morse code from the top tier of the balcony seats. Overkill just doesn't begin to describe this chap being thrown out, or the manner in which it happened. Indeed, I don't know why we're even amazed anymore - Blair and his sycophantic troupe of performing chimps, err...sorry, (the current) Her Majesty's Cabinet, came to power in '97 as a bunch of inexperienced wanna-bees and have dutifully continued in that vein and lived down to every one of everyone's expectations ever since. Even Robin Cook's best years (supporting Wilson's previous shower of hopeless tossers and chip-on-shoulder merchants) were behind him before Labour retook power. The rest has been woeful - there are no more worthy polemicists or orators anymore, just politics-by-sound-byte and pale and transparent speeches written by callow spotty youth party arse-kissers and unelected paid 'advisors' - the sheer number of whom probably reflects the object paucity in the quality of the so-called politicians we have today. Wasters to a man. Being as this happened at a party conference - I second your motion brother Mahoney.

| Regardless of which party you vote for, todays episode was disturbing as far as British Political History is concerned. To see a party in government become so detatched from its electorate is without doubt shocking. Is there any wonder that people are becoming more and more disenfranchised with the British Political scene. We no longer have politicians who are charismatic, they are so bland its untrue. The pictures shown of Derek 'Degsy' Hatton heckaling at previous Labour conferences showed just how far our politcians have distenced themselves from the electorate. Unfortunatly the vast number of politicians (because of the continual media coverage and interest in their private lifes) now see themselves as some sort of stars, celebrites and entertaines rather than the public servants that they are/should be. Truely a sad day for democracy in this country.
