Talking Why is all my kit crap

According to lots of people on here am I surprised that I even make it to the waters edge my kit is so crap.

Recently we have had the same old stuff about Beaver fin straps, apparently they are rubbish and break at the first touch.

I have Faber cylinders - well I think these are OK but they are fitted with a beaver manifold - according to one post today are the cheapest, shittiest thing you can buy. Bought 1997 and not had a problem since.

I have an OMS IQ pack again this week described as being rubbish and the only thing worth using is the Ali BP, which surprised me as it obviously isn't SS.

Almost forgot - an OMS 94lb bungied wing, enough said I think, but at least it isn't red so maybe I can get away with that one

I admit that when I bought most of my kit I didn't have the benefit of the vast experience of divers on here, but I seem to have survived despite what I wear.

So Ladies and Gentleman please can we get over what prejudices you have about other brands.

The only thing I will add if anyone from Beaver is reading this can you please stop using those crappy green knobs you can't shutdown and replace with those nice tactile ones

Well, I am particularily pleased with my Beaver cylinders and I hate the feel of Caroline's Fabers when I wear them. The manifold is either Beaver or a Scubatec one - funnily enough they look identical. I have had no problems with them at all (however they do have the nice tactile knobs)

My OMS wing has done ok.

My crappy Mares finstraps never broke.

My cheapy Oceanic Alpha 7 CDX reg STILL has the best breathe of any reg I have tried and is far nicer than the Apeks I changed to.

So, hear hear.....

If I hear "you must get Faber and MDE" once more (when completely unjustifiable apart formt he fact it is the standard answer passed on time and time again) I may just scream.....

Given that our DIR brethren avoid both these brands for very good reasons (balance of tanks & facing o-rings in te manifold I believe), is it not time we stopped recycling claims and debated the merits or otherwise basedon our own experience and fact?

Is it Bever's fault that you can't reach them properly? The knobs on my twins are hardly big but since they come easily to hand I don't have to worry about that.

Get some longer arms fitted.

Sorry we cant.

My grampa smoked 40 a day till he was a 105 and then he cut down to
30. Does that mean smoking is ok?

Reason many say things are crap is that in there opinion it is. As long as
its personal or at least second hand experience, then it is valed. Gets dodgy
as soon as you get third-hand. That's when myth becomes fact.

So Beaver straps - rubbish (they broke)
Beaver manifolds - rubbish - mates of mine failed
OMS wings - fine - never ever heard of a problem and no they havnt ever
got caught/snagged.

Mind you my Mares fins (with the camclips) still havnt broke after 10 years.
My pre-Apeks (had to go sealed) Beuchat (beaucrap) still has the better breathe.

I suspect that the problem is not to do with reaching the valves, but rather with turning them wearing neoprene gloves having got hold of them. This is the problem I had with the crappy green plastic knobs on my valves, before I replaced them with the tactile ones.
