I dont think its worth the £60.00 to try.

I think that bodge tape is the best thing if you have to get somewhere quickly.

You just practice the " How did that get there officer" routine.

I wondered if it was true, but don't think it is worth it. Mostly SPECS only affects me going through road works and I don't really resent having to slow down in these situations.

Apropos [Posh or what lol] to the report in the Mail about the 3points 60 quid thing does anybody know if everybody decided to go to court and then put in a long plea in mitigation would the whole system collapse. My most recent accusation was dropped. I was so sure I wasn't speeding with a laser used on a hill and corner that I had an expert in laser progataion, effects of the car moving up into the beam and stuff and was going to fight it so they backed down. Pity really 'cos I was so mad if I had won the evidence would have gone to stiff the officer concerned for attempting to pervert the course of justice!

Time to fight back people.

David.

This says it all:
Quote:
Motoring groups say police are putting too much reliance on cash-raising speed cameras, that fine a driver travelling a few miles above the speed limit - but are unable to spot a dangerous, drunk, uninsured, or untaxed driver in an un-roadworthy or stolen vehicle who is driving under the speed limit.

Last year more than 2 million motorists were caught speeding on camera, raising £120m a year in revenue for so-called 'Safety Camera Partnerships' comprising police, magistrates’ councils and road safety groups.

Speed cameras have boomed on British roads from a handful a decade ago to 3,300 fixed sites and 3,400 mobile devices today. At the same time there has been an 11 per cent cut in police patrols.

Sets of the SPECS cameras have been installed at 27 sites around the UK at a cost of between £180,000 and £1.5 million per site.
The perception is you may be mugged you may be burgled you may have your car stolen and you will be lucky if any one bothers to turns up,but if you go a few MPH over the limit then you will be in court. Speed cameras near school, hospitals and residential areas OK motorways why they are a safest roads. If they were that keen on motorway speed limits then they could legislated to have speed limiters fitted.
maybe we are turning the police into the Pretorian guard of the road safety lobby ?

Apparently if caught speeding through a mobile camera or laser gun then it is very easy to challenge in the courts simply by asking what method was the officer using to corroborate the alledged speeding offence, with fixed Gatso cameras they have the lines on the road. However with mobile units they tend to just press the record button then at the end of the shift take it all back to the speeding offence office then go through the video footage and select the daily quota of offending motorists. So you can have 2 challenges
1, request corroroberation method then challenge it ie "I used such and such a tree or lampost"
2, demand to know why you have been selected out of the multiple speeding cars that were videoed.

I so enjoyed my recent road driving awareness course paid by my work and facilitated by an ex traffic policeman. Such handy tips he gave

Don't be too quick to try it!

If there is one more camera than number of lanes you will get caught. On the average three lane motorway if there were 4 cameras:

Pass the first one in lane 1

Change to lane 2

Pass second camera

Change to lane 3

Pass third camera

...you run out of lanes to use as you pass the fourth one and then they can do you as two cameras will have recorded you in each lane.

As they are 'facing' and take your pic from the front, buy a motorbike...or don't speed.

As for the camera safety partnerships, Northants Plod run BikeKraft a couple of times a year at Silverstone, two meals high and low speed riding and a couple of classroom sessions all paid for by the speeders.

I've heard very good things about this. How fast do I have to go in order to be selected? (The VFR is only good for about 160..)

Thought you would know better than that the speed limit here is set so that tractors have a chance of beaking it.
