It was great, I was loving it until the werewolf jumped through the window into the kitchen!!! Then it was just comedy. I think the costume was actually nicked from the people who made the Big Foot tape - BAD special effects!!

Yeah, but it's so bad, it's good! The scariest part is in the build-up, when you see the werewolves flitting through the trees.

For scary werewolves, though, you can't beat 'American Werewolf In London.' I was 15 when I first saw that, and thought the effects and gore were brilliant.

I second "in the mouth of madness" scary on both mental and blood and gore level

The only horror in the last few years that really played on my mind was the Excorcist 3 but that may be a throwback to baggage from my religious upbringing

Safe diving,

Absolutely agree with these, classics. I remember watching The Haunting on late night tv when I was a kid and loved it. Tracked it down last year and watched it again, still love it. Don't Look Now really spooked me out, that midget is really creepy and the chase scene at the end, excellent. Can't remember Legend of Hell House but I'm sure I've seen it. Another good one was House on Haunted Hill, the original 1959 version.

Another vote for Evil Dead, I've seen it a couple of times and it still gets me. I'd also recommend What Lies Beneath, not out and out horror but still shit me up

Cheers/Nic

Agreed - sometimes the scariest stuff is what you CAN'T see.

Which is personally why I've never gone in for the Saw/Hostel type stuff. Its too graphic its just not scarey - alright it might be stomach churning but I prefer the psycological stuff.

I'm a fan of both sorts, which basically means I'll watch any old rubbish, the trashier the better!

Those early eighties horrors, like Evil Dead, were great in terms of gore content, but they weren't terribly subtle.

I agree with what you say about the unseen/unknown. I'm one of the few people I know who found Blair Witch Project terrifying. Those stick shapes hanging from the trees, the noises outside the tent and the little piles of stones really frightened me, because you never actually saw what was doing it; it was all left to your imagination.

I saw the Blair Witch Project at the cinema and didn't find it that scary. There was plenty of build up and then nothing. And the shaky camera work made it really hard to get any idea of what was going on. One thing that other people in the cinema said was scary was the ending with the guy stood facing the corner. Unfortunately I missed the reference so didn't get it!

On the other hand, Blair Witch 2: Book Of Shadows is, undisputedly, a pile of cack. Don't watch it, ever.

Cheers/Nic

I'm another one who loves the original versions of Ring, Dark Water, The Eye, etc, much better than the US versions, it's the way tehy build the tension up and the way they are minimally filmed, if you know what I mean!

Event Horizon is one of my favourite films, I've worn out the video that I have and keep meaning to buy it on DVD but haven't got around to it yet...

I'm not a big fan of gore-fests, it's not the blood and guts that put me off, I just prefer to be mentally tortured

I loved The Haunting of Hill House (the original version) the bit where the two female leads are in the bedroom and the loud footsteps start scared the s**t out of me!

I saw teh Blair Wtich Project and I was the only person in the cinema and boy did the surround sound freak me out.

At various points I actually had to look behind me to see if someone had sneakedi nto the theatre.

I can imagine in a packed cinema it looses some of its appeal tho!
