I feel new divers do have a lot to contribute, it has been almost ten years since my openwater course and I have no doubt that things may have changed in that time that I am unaware of. The dive scene is continuously evolving and new divers are more likely to be in possession of new knowledge.

Looking on other threads, some members do not post that often because they say somebody else beats them to it with a similar idea/comment. Perhaps repeat posting should be encouraged so that readers can gauge just how popular or common place a particular response is.

My 2 new pence worth

Have you read Mike Ward's article on Internet diving in Diver Mag? It's about that very subject. It caused a little bit of a ruck on divernet. (That's another web-site - pleae don't go there.)

The section of the article where the central character advises another user about modifying a rebreather, then fails to make the connection when a fatality is reported involving a rebreather diver with home modified kit brought home to me the dangers of offerring 'advice', however well meaning unless I am absolutely certain of my facts and can prove them in person and by experience

There is also the other issue about the amount of time which people have to spend on YD. Due to personal circumstances at the moment, I haven't got a lot of time to log in and when I do so after a week, seeing that there has been several thousand postings since I last logged in can be a bit off-putting even for a regular.

There's a much larger forum with 70,000 members based over the pond. There's tons and tons of discussions about good old fashioned fun recreational diving. I have found little evidence of posturing from twinset/wing users.

That will be the forum where they overwhelmingly recommend "BPW" if anyone asks for advice on BCs, and recommend using a long hose and bungied secondary reg for all diving?

Sounds like there's a bit of pressure from the "techies" to me.
