..as it is in the US.....I've been told its named after 'Canadian oil'....the plant is still called Rape, the oil is Canola.....could be different in Oz

There are a multitude of social reasons why the birth rate is falling, eg

1 Kids are too expensive to run,

2 The rise in the cost of living leading to the need for 'dual earner' families,

3 Increased education/career opportunities for women,

4 Decline in the infant mortality rate,

5 You can no longer send kids out to work at the age of 5 years (Ah, the good
old days!),

etc, etc. However, when I set an essay on this topic for my class of 6th Formers, one soul who was obviously struggling gave another explanation: most houses now only have 2 bedrooms, so there's no room for more than 2 kids!!
