Smile Slime .........

I had the same issue doing the coast paths ...bloody thorns ! Switched to a solid liner on the rear (Goes inside the tyre and protects the inner tube ~) and slime throughout...with correct tyre pressures...worked a treat.......downside was the extra weight NOT that you'll notice on a mountain bike and the tyre once it does get enough abuse to go down is throwable. Road tyres have Kevlar and no punctures so far ! (Thats done it now)

This stuff works (well on motorbikes) but is for tubeless tyres... It is also the work of the devil to get the bloody tyre off after the puncture.

I don't know if you can get them for road pushbikes but there is a puncture proof tube available in MTB sizes. Only thing is you might shag the tyre as you don't know there's something stuck in it. ('cos it aint gone down).

Kevlar is good and keep the pressure up - that helps too....

Off road biking

I use the bike to go down farm tracks and country roads. The bike is a hybrid bike with medium duty tyres-not quite road, not quite mountain.
The added weight of the new tyres is not an issue as I use the bike for fitness rather than getting from A to B swiftly.
You can get slime for my wheels but talking to the bike shop staff they all used the kevlar tyres.
With Father's Day and my birthday coming along soon I am hoping that the portable pump kit will be coming my way. That way I don't have to march through fields, and ditches!!, as per last night-I took a shortcut.

I recently got into my biking and use Singletrack - Mountain Bike Magazine - Not as big and full of stuff as here but still get a good few posts if your having problems etc.

My 2p is that i have a slimey tube on the front and a kevlar tyre on the back and havent had punctures in them for well over 250 miles now, as before i had normal steel tyres i was getting a good 2/3 punctures a ride!! very tedious!!

No time for that, I am still being paid. Give a it couple of weeks and that parrafin stories might start. That and the best way to replace garden fencing, and the flat roof saga.
Although the trimix training in Gozo may take priority, if the boss will let me go.

I tried the slime after a colleague did Lands End to John O'Groats with no punctures!

You can get two tubes for about £12. I do 10 miles a day to work and back, so thats 2500 miles a year, and no punctures with them for the couple of years I have been using them. They are not perfect, you do get "slightly" flat tyres, when you one day realise you need some air. I presume this is loss when i get a puncture and it self seals.

I would recommend them to anyone to try for the price, if you do not want to spend a lot of money.

Slime is your friend!

It's great to take off a tyre after a year or so and find all the little splodges of green where the tube has punctured and repaired and you haven't known anything about it.

My 2p worth is: Don't run over the cowpacks, you never know what's in them. Once I did went for one lost control and fell. So a country lane with cow packs just do the slalom!
