| I recall that you are voting for a person, who might happen to be in a party. Else we could not have independant MPs. Of course many may be voting for the party irrespective of the person standing, or even think they are voting for a particular person to be PM. Adrian

| I believe you're right, the 'person' is the key, but surely for any real political balls to be displayed, the person should have the courage to resign their seat and stand for re-election. |

| What pisses me off most about these defections is the way the person is fêted by his new party. They normally get parachuted into a nice safe seat if there's any danger of them not getting re-elected in their old constituency or fast-tracked into a cushy junior-ministerial role and generally treated much better than people who have been faithful members of the party for donkey's years. |
