Apparently he's up for a whole list of things.
People are often all too quick to slag the cops off as useless and lazy and perpetuate the myth that we never do anything about anything and by doing so discouraging people from contacting the police in the first place - and so by expressing their erroneous and negative views of the cops helping the scrotes get away with their crimes.

Well here is the reality - yes we do care, yes we are interested and yes, every now and then (whenever it is humanly possible to do so) we catch the little bastards!

Nigel, delighted to hear the good news (though not entirely surprised). Good luck with your day in court and I hope they deal with him in an appropriate fashion.

What happened to that sweet long-haired youth I met on a PADI IDC in Malta in 1992? (Surely, there cannot be more than one Steve Jones in Wales?)

Nigel: They'll probably ask you both to agree to being 'bound over' so they can speed it through the process. Stop assaulting these innocent kiddies with your 'phone!

Postscript.

Phone call from the CPS today.
Apparently the young man was sentenced to a 12 month detention order.

I'm not quite sure what that means but that's what he got.

He has to stay at school for an hour writing out 100 times "I must not steal other people's phones" for a year?

The Court has given you a Detention and Training
Order. This is because …
◆ you have been convicted of an offence which is
punishable with imprisonment in a case of an adult,
and
◆ the offence (or the offence in combination with
other associated offences) is so serious that only a
custodial sentence is justified, or
◆ in the case of a violent or sexual offence, only a
custodial sentence would be adequate to protect
the public from serious harm from that individual
child or young person.
The Courts can only give you a Detention and
Training Order for certain lengths of time, these are 4,
6, 8, 10, 12, 18 & 24 months.
The aim is to help you stop offending by keeping you
in a secure environment and then being under
supervision on release. Half of your sentence will be
spent in custody and the other half in the community.

The Detention and Training order has two
parts:
◆ Custody where work will be done with you on your
offending behaviour.
◆ While in Custody your Supervising YOT Officer will
meet with you within 5 days of sentencing and then
a review within the first month. Your Supervising
Officer may either be a Social Worker or Probation
Officer. Visits will be monthly if subject to a DTO of
12 months or less or if subject to a longer sentence
visits will be at least every two months.
◆ Community where on release you will be involved
in a Supervision Plan where you will be expected to
see your Supervising Officer twice weekly to build
on work undertaken in custody.
◆ On transfer to the community you will be required
to see your Supervising YOT Officer on the day of
your release. A home visit will take place within 5
days.

At least he didn't get away scott free!
