School Fees!

Last year minime's school fees went up by 9% apparently because the carpets needed changing and the boiler needed replacing.

This year they are going up by 4.8% so that they can retain staff.

I bet the teachers didn't get a 4.8% rise!

At this rate it won't be long before I can send him to boarding school....it'd be cheaper!!!

The only thing good about paying school fees is that university comes as a welcome relief!!

How much forewarning did you have? They get you by the 'short & curly' because it's not as if you have much of a choice. Maybe the parents comitee should warn the school that this is not acceptable and next year there shouldn't be a rise (above inflation).

Isnt it parental choice to send their child to a fee charging school whether boarding or not.

Well, we had a choice: either send our son to the local state school which is one one the worst schools in Cardiff or pay to send him to the local private school which is one of the best schools, private or state, in Wales.

Or we could have moved into the catchment area of a better state school at a cost far greater than the 8 years of fees we choose to pay.

We're lucky in that we can just about afford to pay the fees. Others have to put up with the lottery that the state educational system offers, or attend church for a couple of months in order to get the local vicar/priest to back up their application for the local church school.

I did that.

I was pleased with the results but I'll admit it was a relief when they finished.

I guess i am lucky in that i (or rather master scubee) lives in the catchment area of some excellent state schools. i can choose to beleive that he will get a decent education in one of about 4 which are above national average and all it will cost me is my tax and the extortion which is school uniform.

however, i heard that last years year 7 intake were 'encouraged' to attend about 5 overseas trips. I don't remember there being more than one per year when i was at school!

Maybe it's cheaper than trips within UK! 5 a year though, that's a lot. My best trips were the 1 week army camps in the Brecon Beatons. They were brilliant

Yep. I have the choice to send them to one of three state schools which have abysmal records.

or

Become a Catholic

or

Pay for the best education in Dorset.

Don't get me wrong...it's not the paying that's annoying it's the above inflation rises....it seems everywhere gets inflation busting increases except the workers!!!
