| What do the Police actually do? Got back today to find the neighbours kid 17 years old unconscious and severe cuts to the head and face, he answered the door to two of his brothers friends who hit him with a sock filled with coins and another with a cricket ball and when he was on the floor they then kept hitting him with a set of brass knuckles !!! Anyway they know who the kids are Both 14 years old and where they live, so they called the police whilst i got an ambulance for him (and he's in over night if not a few nights) and what do the police say???? Sorry but could you come down the station when you get time as we are a little short of officers WTF is going on!!! Rant mode off i have now been talking to his mates to stop them going over and sorting it out for the police Unbelievable

| I find that, unless there are any other witnesses, the local police are quite "concious" of the concerns of the local populace when confronted with anti-social behaviour (usually concerning 14 year olds); and have quite a relaxed attitude...unless you actually hospitalise one. Long may it continue, although I've only have to use it once.

| an absolute travesty ! as far as im concerned when someone (i.e a teen)hits another with a sock full of coins they are no longer children and have become adults as that simply is not the behaviour of a child! do anti social behaviour orders actualy work? will they ever work ? or do recipients of the orders simply see them as a trophy to highten their standing within social groups or gangs ! and with friends and family knowing the lads who have carried out the attack i wouldnt be supprised if the 14 year olds get a good kicking ! | Surprisingly enough there aren't boxes of fresh, new bobbies sat in a store cupboard in the nick just waiting to be opened up whenever somebody makes a call. Yes, it's piss-poor service but it's not for want of trying. Your title suggests the cops are just lazy twats doing nothing - when the reality is the actual cause of the problem is that the cops are running around like mad working their arses off desperately trying to keep the wheel on when there's just not enough of them to go around. Yes, in an ideal world it would be of some value to get the offenders arrested sooner rather than later to recover forensic evidence, but you know who they are and where they are so at a push they can be arrested and dealt with later. It's not an ideal world and so in all liklihood on a Saturday evening all the available bobbies were running around like blue-arsed-flies doing things that simply couldn't wait. We have to prioritise - and of course everybody's problem is important to them and they always think they are a priority - but you've no way of knowing what else might have been going on this evening. As serious as the assult on your neighbour sounds I can think of many much worse things that might have been going on elsewhere and demanding police attention first. You're never going to take my word for anything, but for the most part we are trying to do our best with what little we've got and despite all the hurdles placed in our way. A lot of the time it's not good enough - but the blame isn't all ours.

Surely you can see that the situation is that the middle majority public are becoming frustrated at what they perceive as a lack of action on the part of the police and as such, vigilante action becomes acceptable in the mind. It's not right, but what else can I or any member of the public do. We certainly can't change the fact that you do not have enough man power to cover the violent assault reported above, so personal action is all that is left - is it not? Juz
