Other obvious distractions which should also be made illegal:

- adjusting the sat nav
- having tv screens on the dashboard (e.g. sat nav)
- adjusting the radio
- running your business from your mobile phone (albeit thru a headset)
- talking to passengers
- playing "I Spy"

Other things which require one hand to leave the steering wheel, and which therefore should also be illegal:

- changing gear
- opening the window
- closing the window
- pulling the sun visor down

Will it be illegal to drive in "low sun" conditions? After all it's a distraction.

You forgot:

- adjusting steering height/reach/rake
- adjusting seat height/reach/pitch/lumber support
- changing CD or CD Cartridge (if under seat)
- touching up passenger
- reading book
- adjusting air con
- scratching bollocks
- picking nose
- wiping nasal contents on seat

I presume this is because the roll and flick method would probably land you a £50 littering fine...

My car hasn't got an ashtray. It was an optional extra (- a bit like BMW indicators ) so I thought I would quit instead.

I remember reading an article somewhere by someone praising those people who have stickers like 'little brat causing mayhem in the back' or similar. Her reason for thinking they were brilliant was so that everyone else on the road would understand why you might not be concentrating on driving properley

It takes time for things like this to seep into the national conciousness, but they do eventually.

I and many others have been arguing for legislation outlawing the smacking of children for years, but the main argument put up by the Government is that it would be almost impossible to police. That shouldn't matter; what they would be doing is sending out a message that it's no longer acceptable. Eventually people would take notice.
Wow, we are almost ..... erm ............ not bi-polar but ...... erm ........... poles apart!

Personally, I'm sick to death of bloody infringements by gov busybodies on civil liberties. By all means prosecute people if they cause an incident because they were receiving oral sex whilst smoking a pint and changing the CD cassette on their ipod 8-track. Note, can something be an accident if someone may be held to blame?

Smacking children? Well, I'm not in favour of kicking sh*t out of them but, as is patently obvious these days, respect (initially) comes from fear. When a person has the wherewithall and experience to appreciate things then respect may be given for many other reasons.

Also, the Finless theory of interference (NOT molestation) is that the rate of interference is directly proportional to the population of the country (once beyond a 'tipping point') and inversely proportional to the amount of real work a jobsworth has to do.
