His problem is that the "Prime minister" can't blame the "Chancellor" for this one !

With Gordie now wanting to be our friend, a general election in the offing, and the Tory Party conference, (who will make the most of this) next week, the Prime Minister must now wish he`d have kept his mouth shut and left it until later to announce the +£1 a litre petrol price.

If he had any guts and political forethought, he`d quietly shelve it (at least until after the election)

What a good thing. Petrol is far too cheap. I take it no one gives a fuck about the environment. More tax please...

Everything you buy has an element of road-transport in its price. It's funny that Gordon says he worries about the environment but actually makes diesel more expensive than petrol.

My understanding is that the duty on fuel is exactly the same as on petrol....it's the fuel companies that are putting the price of diesel higher than that of petrol. I can't remember where I read it but apparently this started to happen when more and more cars owners started switching from petrol to diesel.

I don't know how other governments tax their fuel but it is interesting that in France where the majority of cars are diesel (or certainly seem to be everytime i drive there) although the prices are not a million miles from the prices we pay (still cheaper though) that diesel is less expensive than petrol.

At 50.35p a litre from 1 October, the duty paid on diesel in the UK is the highest rate in Europe, where the average level is 22.7p a litre. (Source: BBC News BBC NEWS | Business | Tax rise fuels petrol price fears)
