Personally I think its a great idea.

Most kids play up because they are bored and don't have a focus. If you can get one or two a genuine interest and a sense of achievement it just may help turn their lives around.

Of course some are total a55holes and nothing will amke a difference, but in my view thats not a reason not to try.

The only thing I will add is keep the numbers each dive low, so they will be more controllable.

Hopefully, the word will spread from toerag to toerag, and you can raise the respect level in your neighbourhood.

Maybe a little too optomistic, but we can live in hope.

Was lucky enough to do a try dive last week and it was on a 1:1 situation.
It was great and gave me confidence to go back this week. If I had had to share an instructor I don't know if I would have felt so good after .

Many years ago I was involved in a scheme funded by the European Social Fund to train disadvantaged young people to dive at Glasgow College of Nautical Studies.

They all enjoyed it and quite a few went on to complete some open water dives. The trouble was it was pretty much a dead end for them because they couldn't possibly afford the ongoing costs. The ESF did fund several compete sets of kit including drysuits but the organisers allowed certain of the disadvantaged youths to take that home with them for 'safe-keeping' and, not surprisingly, the kit was never seen again.

But the principal of getting people outdoors and active is a sound one and I take my hat off to you for doing something. Well done.

I think it's a great idea. I take on board the point about the cost of keeping it going if they go on to qualify, but if it gives someone the incentive to get out there and work towards achieving their goals I think it's great.

Perhaps this could be used as a new anti lout drive. Send your idea to Gordon Brown, if he thinks its a good idea, and could cut crime, he will anounce it in the commons the very next week. Of course it will have been all his idea lol. If it all goes wrong and the "toe rags" misbehave theres always a simple way out with no prison to pay for .
Seriously I think its a good idea, the youth of today is not all bad, and given something to focus on they can achieve great things.
Happy Training
Roger

I know its really hard going with these kids the good fantastic thing is our club will welcome these kids. I will be talking with the DO soon but wanted to put it to yd first for feed back which i thank you . This idea has been on my mind for a while. I work for local M P from time to time they love good press and might point us in right direction to get our club more small dive kit.

There is loads of things that could stop this but but one step at a time
