Angry Low Lifes

I took my eldest two children to Alton Towers yesterday.

Having a great time... going on all of the rides they wanted to go on, them 'bottling' it before going on the big rides... eating junk food... getting wet on the rides... brill!

Unfortunatley, it was all marred for me by an incident whilst queuing for one of the rides at the end of the day...

... happily chatting with my children, but getting a bit annoyed with the three 'lads' (they were late teens, early twenties) standing behind us... constantly using the F word, amongst others, with loads of children around them, and all of them spitting... yuck. I was trying my best to ignore them when one of them burped and blew the rotten stinking blech straight at me... with a 'have some of that' grin on his face!

Final straw for me - I looked at him, shook my head and asked which gutter he had woken up in this morning. Well, that was it it for him and his two mates.. they launched into a brarrage of abuse at me - blaming me for wanting to start a fight in front of all of these children, how much of an F-ing w***er I was... it just kept coming.

Now, I was in a dilemma - under normal 'one on one' circumstances, I would have entered the 'discussion' giving as good, and hopefully better than the rubbish I was being given. But something told me that these guys weren't going to give up if I started back.

I could just see the situation blowing up and it getting VERY nasty, very quickly (How was I to know that these guys weren't tooled up in some way - they had distinctive accents, and from living faily close to that area, I know that knife crime etc. is commonplace) - something was telling me to just turn around and ignore the little scroats. My children were shocked, and so by the looks of things were many other people in the queue. I was on my own really, no offer of help from any of the other people in the line - so I had to turn my back on them while they carried on with their torrent of obscene language, aimed at me, for the next 20 minutes while we waited to get on the ride.

I felt, not humiliated (well if I'm honest, perhaps just a little bit, as my children were with me, and I couldn't really stick up for myself) but angry that these people could get away with their actions.

How sad it is that this sort of treatment towards others, seems to almost accepted in society, that they were acting in such an aggresive manner and no one else could/would offer any assistance to me.

Thank you - do feel a bit better for sounding off.

Pete

sorry to hear about this incident, spoiling what was otherwise a nice day out. I suspect you may habe second thoughts about going again, understandably. Perhaps it would be an idea to write to Alton Towers explaing what had happened, perhaps they would consider using a security team to ensure they have continued custom, I doubt you were the only one now considering not going back.

It is also perhaps a shame that these days other adults dont stand together when this sort of thing happens. Sign of the times I'm afraid.

Matt

Although you felt humiliated, you did the right thing, you had your children to think about. I've walked away in the same sort of situation and was so annoyed at not being able to sort out the scrotes, was thinking of dropping the kids at home and driving back 40 miles to get it sorted. Your kids wouldnt have thought a great deal of you if you had been rolling around the floor with a load of scrotes .

Peter,

feel for you! I would have backed you up! Like you I cant stand that sort of behaviour as well, and you're right if you had started something it would have been your fault.

I've been in a similar position and all you want to do is knock their f***ing heads off - sorry getting going again.

Phil

just on a slightly differant note, i think you were already stitched up on the way in, its a lot of cash for what it is, i think its hard to justify and its ashame its just down the road from stoke, i take it thats where the chavs you encountered were from...

Pete,
I feel for you i really do. Unfortunatley it is all too common place these days and as someone once said words similar to "Evil thrives when good men stand by and do nothing."
In this day and age you can all but forget about other good people stepping in to assist you in such circumstances. We have all become very secular and in my opinion this is why such behaviour breeds because collectivley we don't stand up to these sorry excuses for humanity.
In days gone by several men of good character who may have been in line for the ride probably with their families would have rallied around despite being strangers and left these scumbags in no doubt that should they continue in their behaviour it would be painful for them.
In this day and age there is a distinct lack of respect for anything even families with children.
It is always the same with these types they have to show off in front of their peers each trying to outdo the other to gain some level of moronic respect from their mates. Get em on their own and generally they are absolute no bodies that would not say boo to a goose for fear of getting a good shoeing they use the old chestnut of safety in numbers to do as they please without fear of being challenged.
I should not be ashamed to admit being afraid because this is what these shit heads are trying to do anyway intimidate and put fear into people.
I as you know deal with this sort of crap every day and i have a uniform on i still feel afraid lots of times in similar circumstances even though i am a stocky(some would say fat ) 6ft 3ins tall.
It is human nature nobody wants to get hurt and 3 to 1 are not good odds in anyones book.
You will get the bravado brigade that start up with well i would have taken them on and sorted em out etc etc in reality that is unlikely to have been their course of action.
Chin up mate they will get whats coming maybe not from you but if they carry on like that someone in a better position to realign their attitude may well do so.
I think people are afraid to act these days be it as an individual or a group for fear of repercussions from our barmy laws and insistence on investigating matters were the perpertrators ( in this case these 3 shits) get a kicking for an incident they created.
Wouldn't it be great if we could go back to a time when such behaviour would not be tolerated by the public at large and you knew if you stepped out of line everyone from the shopkeeper to the passerby would jump on your behaviour and force you to stop if need be without fear of prosecution.

Pete, don't blame yourself, you did exactly the right thing but I know how it must have hurt, my two daughters 15 and 16 are both good looking girls and when the 3 of us go out I'm always aware of my need to protect them whilst still being "sensible".

Get problems with groups of kids around most city centres. They're all big and hard in groups but complete cowards when on their own. I'd like to think I would of backed you up in that situation

There's three kids around here that used to give me lip all the time (and I'm really not the tallest guy ever). That all changed when they were playing funny buggers and I drove off with one of them sitting on my bonnett. Funnily enough I haven't had a problem with them since. They even say hello nicely when they pass in the street. Still to$$ers though!

Glad to hear you had a good day otherwise, Lloyd.

this is really the bottom line as to why most people don't / won't "get involved".
what with do-gooders and the law (all of those concerned that is) not exercising common sense, sorry, but we're on our own when potential trouble brews.
i agree that you, (DDD) took the correct action but such a shame that no-one supported you, as now i wonder what message this sends out to the next generation.

Pete,

Very sorry to hear of your incident, I had a similar incident this summer at weston super mare. Got tickets for the wife and daughter for T4 on the beach, however my son did not want to go to the concert but was happy to spend the day playing crazy golf which was ok by me. The green was not too far from where the concert was taking place so there was masses off people everywhere. Here we where minding our own business playing pitch and putt when some brain dead pratt came up to me, stuck his face into my face and called me a "f**king spastic c**t" amongst other things for wanting to play pitch and putt instead off seeing the concert. My first instinct was to head butt the tw*t but as I had my son with me and there was loads of police everywhere thought the best thing was to walk away. I was livid and later regretted not giving him a punch. But with time and hindsight it was the best course of action. Try not to dwell upon this. It takes a bigger and better person to follow your course of action
