| Thats usually the hardest part, getting them to actually tell their insurers. I had an articulated lorry punt me onto the middle of a roundabout once, and it took him two months to actually tell his employers that he had actually been involved in anything, and then he tried to claim that I had reversed into him! It sounds like everything is now moving, so it shouldn't be too bad. Are you fully comp ? If so, I'd expect a pretty quick settlement because they fix everything and then claim it back from the other party later on.

| sounds like you're getting sorted now. I was insured with Tesco and needed to make a claim due to some idiot doing a 3 point turn in my driveway and using the side of my car for brakes.... Tesco insurance were very prompt and efficient and I was glad of the courtesy car included. As the driver had driven off with no details I had to take the hit, but the insurer still kept chasing to find out if I'd uncovered who was at fault so they could go after them to recover my losses. We've also had another incident of the other driver being at fault and providing false details, previous form and no insurance etc. (Private hire cabbie too!) Cost us £600 repairs and a fair bit of hassle. Police seemed pretty powerless to resolve this and the guy disappeared quickly. The main lessons we learnt from this one were 1) have a means of getting photographic evidence - either a disposable camera kept in the car or a cameraphone. Then you can snap the car positions, the driver and any witnesses. Makes things easier if they start to change their story later. 2) chase stuff through ASAP, and keep chasing until the other parties are complying. We got the runaround of this guy for a few days and it took 3-4 days for things to unravel, by which time he'd dumped the private hire taxi he was driving and cleared out of the area... hope you are back on the road quick enough

| Sorry to hear about the bad luck, but at least things seem to be moving in the right direction at a reasonable speed (unlike the woman who caused it all!) |

| that is the crazy situation i got left in when my car was written off. If it had been worth repairing, i would have been entitled, under the insurance policy, to have a hire car. for however long it took for the repairs to be completed. The moment it was declared a write off, i became no longer entitled to it. Fault was disputed in my case, so if i had continued to have one until i bought a replacement, there was no guarantee I would get my money back.

| Insurance woes... I was involved in an RTA on 27th December last year about 50 yards from Islington nick, the other driver came out of a side road... I called the police because a) I figured on personal injury b) proximity to the nick and c) the attitude of the other driver was a bit sus. He blew positive and got arrested, the medics ended up having me signed off work for 3 basta*d months. Almost a year on there has been no real progress, the other prat denies liability and claims to have a witness that I was speeding....(the witness got the time wrong by 4 hours among other minor details and has since changed their statement...) and despite the police accident report his insurers seem not to acknowledge the drink thing... So be prepared for a possible long haul. If the other driver has admitted liability you may find things quicker but ordinarily insurance companies are very reluctant to allow their clients to cede responsibility. Best of luck with the claim, at least you weren't injured. |

| Ok...update...car written off...van still in for evaluation... I had a chat with my mate Barry today about how unfair it was, that I hadn't even had an offer on the car yet...and the garage a round demanding thier loan car back...now its been decided that the car is beyond ecconomical repair. So I rang my insurers again and moaned... Why should I not have a loan car..when due to no fault of my own...ect They got another firm to ring me... a hire firm that works along side the insurance industry...but not within my car insurance policy...they are independants... They rang and took all my details...and as its a no fault accident on my part and they are happy that I can proove it...they are happy to lend me a car...up until I get my first compensation offer on the car and for a further 7 days after....which would cover the cheque clearing.... So outcome... moan like BillyO and they might give you a bit more... I wasn't told about the other firm, I had to push..I'll keep posting, because its interesting how its unfolding and it may help someone else...

| I was with Tesco a few years ago and some tw** hit me from behind and I had no luck with getting a hire car out of Tesco while my was being repaired. I ended up finding out the insurance details for the bloke who hit me a got a loan car supplied by them Worth a try I guess.

| Ok ... update... All sorted out now, got my cheque from the van, no problem... and more than I hoped for, I had to take the hire van back 10 days after the issue date on the cheque, so its really kind of them to allow it to clear before they took the van back. I have had my car repaired.... £410 again after the insurance company back peddled...so My little cars ok now, even valleted.. I also recieved an invoice copy of the car hire from DriveAssist..£1260 for 22 days hire... I bought another van, had to travel to Maidenhead for it... but its great. so overall a happy bunny now...
