I'm not a Royalist or Anti -royalist and I'm not really interested in "Conspiracy Theories" but:

These apply only to foreign requests which "put at stake secrets which if released would damage the essential interests of the country".

It's just not on, is it?
If the scum "paparazi" can simply hide behind this and not give a version of events it's a bit sad, to say the least.
Best guess:
some "celebs" did a runner from the Press, their driver was pissed and they crashed and were killed...
To use "loop-holes" and "State-secrecy" to avoid having to disclose that you were thinking more of your pocket than the lives of fellow human beings is a sad reflection on the world in which we live- not a surprising one, admittedly...

Thats just the French government being twats. Bet the farmers and lorry drivers would go on strike and burn our lamb if the tables were turned and it was one of theirs that was killed and we revoked some ancient ruling to protect our press!

to be honest - i dont see why they should be forced to attend a british inquest into an event that happened in france.

if it was a french inquest its a different story, o if they are british subjects, or living in britain - that too changes matters.

They were not being asked to attend the UK, they were asked to give information via video conference call.
