It's possible to have an intellectual discussion on cats' names? Get away!

BCCI was actually a different beast to Barings but the BoE was involved in considering extending assistance in both cases. There was quite a large court case where it was alleged that Bank officials had committed malfeasancein relation to BCCI.

The financial qualifications I had are no longer valid, the industry has moved on a bit in 20 years. In any case I wasn't attempting to offer advice.

Still, if my posts are barred it's difficult to see how I can defend my position.
*SIGH*

Ok - crayon and coloured paper time:

BCCI was brought down as a result of fraud and insider dealing as well as being suspected of using deposted accounts to pay out bonuses on investments that didn't exist. Key word there is FRAUDand the BoE quite rightly decided it was not to step in once this became a police matter.

Barings was brought down by rogue trading brought about by insufficient control measures being in place and again the BoE quite rightly did nothing.

Both cases are fundamentally different from Northern Rock. In addition the LEGAL STATUS of a merchant bank differs from a lender like Northern Rock.

You keep harping on about the BoE stepping in - you obviously disagree with all my previous posts about why this happened, why it was RIGHT to happen and how we all benefit FROM it happening.

I'm still at a loss as to what the hell your point in all this is.

And yes, qualifications over the last 20 years have moved on (considerably) and that kind of backs up my point that you do not appear to be qualified to be making judgements on these cases.

partial pressure....

Could this be that 'pier group' pressure I've heard some mention of?

What's that? Like when Swanage, Brighton and, say, Wigan gang up on poor little Keith?

Or did you mean "peer"?

I know you say you're ignoring me, but if you by chance see this, any pressure you feel has been brought on all by yourself. When you first started posting as captainnemo everybody respected your views, whether they agreed with them or not. Since then, many people have come to believe that you're (still) a bit of a knob, hence the opprobium you've attracted.

Keith, if you are who I think you are, it's still all your own doing. You don't need us. Well done.

(If you're not Keith, I'lll sincerely apologise, but I suspect it won't be necessary.)
