I never did think they were a good idea.

As for the loss of all that data ............... words fail me.

YES, until I recently filled in a renewal 'Security Check and Counter Terrorist Check Questionnaire', 'Baseline Personnel' and the OSA for my MoD clearance and they lost it, now NO!

Who know who has got all my information now

I would go so far as to say that I do like all the information that is kept by me regarding loads of companies.

2 sets of mine got lost...

For those who spout the 'If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear' cobblers, this is the kind of thing you should be thinking about. This is the second CD of data HMCR have lost, another went missing on the way to a bank in Scotland a month or two back.

I don't care what they say. I don't like the idea of that much info being kept about me. I'm sure one of my ancestors brained someone for painting their likeness on a cave wall.

Give me back my soul you heartless institutions!!!!

...and lets not forget the Laptop stolen from one of the HMRC employees last month. Although, apparently, as the laptop was password protected and encrypted (yeah, right!) the employee did leave a print-out of the information in the laptop case with the computer...

But surely there will be nothing on the ID database that isn't on the card? And people will be able to read that from the card in your pocket from 20 feet away as you walk down the street?

Ah the answer to this is simple. Cut the card in half and burn it. Since there is no requirement to carry the thing (or even have one for that matter) you'll be fine (and fined for "losing" it )
