Big picture not just the small one.
Oh come on you cant just divert benifits to another address and collect them all my sister works in the benifit office in swindon and any payment that is paid to a single address over £1000 is stopped until personnel verification can be made. also you'd leave a paper trail that even a blind bobby could follow!!

the details would need to be used to open bank accounts but even then the forms need to be sent some where so they can be signed again another paper trail the press are making a big issue out of this as all ways the only problem at the moment is a breach of the data protection act

so lets get in the real world shall we

Graham

really so people never get cheated out of benefits, nobody ever used a dead persons details to claim benefits that were paid out without proper checks on who they were.

have a trawl through the BBC archives or sky news archives or reuters for that matter and look at some of the benefit fraud cases.

and its not the big single payments its the smaller payments. oh and I bet if your bank details were on that disc and your account got cleaned out then you would be rather miffed.

the point I was trying to make in the post was that the military is woefully underfunded and yes it is a shite state that things get top billing and are then quickly relegated but if the deaths were on top biling all the time we wouldn't take notice of it and would become desensitised to it to the point we don't think about it. as a previuos poster said , its us as the news customer that is to blame for waht the media push out.

The details on the CD can not used for theft but certainly enough for 'indentity theft' - there is a proper term for it but it escapes me at the moment. For example to apply for credit cards, loans etc.... If you get caught up in that then it can only be pure pure hell - certainly no laughing mater.
I actually supported the nationay ID card but the way the data is handled by UK goverment then there is absolutely no way I would want it now.

even more ammunition and backing to my argument of losing out huge amounts of money.

yep theres loads of cases of people getting more or over claiming but we are talking changing details and getting benifit, and if you as a person was expecting money on the 1st of the month by the 5th you'd be on the phone as 90% of claims are paid into a bank and can be recalled there is no problem as a new payment will be released and the other cancalled off, and because there are a load of cases it's because they leave a paper trail and get caught !!

some links would be good of people having goverment money redirected and paid into someone elses account would be good

I wish I hadn't flippantly said "second only to the loss of a couple of CDs" now. The point I was trying to make is that the broadcast news covered the story with the required importance and that the "constantly updated" BBC online tends to have new news prominant, however irrelevant.

You can't win, if you said about the other story of the French on strike we would all be going at the French! Back to your posting though, one thing that concerns me about the army deployment is not only the deaths which are tragic enough but the injured are hardly ever mentioned. We are not talking about a broken arm but more often than not life affecting injuries. The numbers of these injuries is tragic and for the civilians to ignore this fact is shameful.
I wouldn't want a street parade but in all honesty what is the best way to show appreciation to our forces?

Do what you think is right. I make large donations to military charities. My latest favourite on the list is in my signature(click on the "support our troops" link). It's not much, but a few creature comforts from home show that they aren't forgotten - and you can put personal messages in there too.

AFAIK, the one thing the Taleban were really good at was stopping the growing of the heroin poppy. Whether this was for altruistic.religious reasons or to control what they could I don't know. However many farmers have now gone back to growing it.
