On a rally in early 2000's I knew a fellow competitor who arrived at the local Travelodge with his team one night and parked his Impreza WRC in what he thought was the Travelodge car park. On the morning of the rally he saw that his car had been clamped for parking in a non-Travelodge space. Not being able to resolve the situation very quickly he had the service crew replace the complete front quarter - i.e. strut, damper, hub, driveshaft, disc, caliper, wheel etc....which they keep pretty much as a complete assembly for when they have very little time in service between stages and the car comes in with bits hanging off !! Did it in under 10 mins I believe and returned the clamp later that day, undamaged and back to the space where he had been parked overnight ! Good practice for the crew I suppose !! Graham .

He has to have a license to clamp your car regardless of the signs. They're not hard to get and are issued by the Security Industry Authority. Worth checking, if he doesn't have one he has acted illegally and you should get your money back. HTH

Sorry to hear about your clamping, another annoyance that degrades our country. One day, I'd love to park a company car right in front of a clamping sign. Small things amuse, maybe , but it would be a giggle. Products & Services - BAE Systems Chris

Boring Story Going back some years, I used to occassionaly ride a Honda Express moped type thing. The one with the big wheels. I parked behind some shops, not even in a parking bay, just a corner of this yard not bothering anyone. I was away 5 mins and came back to find some silly burger had clamped it and stuck the sticker over the speedo. I laughed to myself and grabbed my helmet out of the top box and started the 10 minute walk home. A bloke who was obviously the clamper saw me leaving and approached me to say it would get impounded if I didn't pay the £80 release fee. So I told him I'd only paid £50 for it 5 years previously and they could do what the hell they wanted with it but I'll be keeping the keys. He got agitated and said It'll get sold if I don't collect it within 30 days. So I just kept walking. When I got home I thought nah... I not having that. So I hitched the trailer to the car and went to recover the ped complete with clamp. I'd let them know where it was if they wanted it back. Well blow me, the miserable sod had removed the clamp when I got back! Bitterly disapointed. Paul
