BBC NEWS | England | Tees | Cliff hero resigns in safety row

Presumably the army will be withdrawing the Victoria Cross in case anyone does anything heroic and dies (Hmmmmm isn't that the pre-requisite for a recipient of a VC?)

Son, you're going to have to make up your mind about growing up and becoming aircrew. You can't do both.

The aircraft limits are only there in case there is another flight by that particular aircraft. If subsequent flights do not appear likely, there are no limits.

that is an absolutely appalling way to treat people. MCA should be proud the guy thought outside the box.

yes it may have gone the other way and we know the insurance companies would have had a field day contesting any payouts but FFS whats the country coming to.

If its not Political correctness, or red tape, its removing the human urge to protect another human in a situation of danger. Surely in that line of work, or in that sort of situation, no one is going to leave a person in that state, he deserves to be recognised for his bravery, not "not following protocal", what if that girl had been his Bosses daughter, be a different view then. What a load of Rollocks!

I think it's right that the MCA carried out an investigation. It's by investigating these things that they can find out how to improve. Also, I don't see how an organisation can expect, or advise, it's employees to copy this brave man's example.

But it is a shame that the investigation caused him hassle, and at such a level that he felt he had to leave.

There is no doubt the guy was a hero.

However I cannot understand why they did not take any equipment with them. I've seen a few cliff rescues in my time and yes they do use alot of equipment. But not to take just a rope seems a little short sighted.

The media will never let detail get in the way of a good story.
