| No more heroes, anymore...... Sometimes things can seem too stupid for words.... BBC NEWS | England | Tees | Cliff hero resigns in safety row Presumably the army will be withdrawing the Victoria Cross in case anyone does anything heroic and dies (Hmmmmm isn't that the pre-requisite for a recipient of a VC?) | that is an absolutely appalling way to treat people. MCA should be proud the guy thought outside the box. yes it may have gone the other way and we know the insurance companies would have had a field day contesting any payouts but FFS whats the country coming to.

| I think it's right that the MCA carried out an investigation. It's by investigating these things that they can find out how to improve. Also, I don't see how an organisation can expect, or advise, it's employees to copy this brave man's example. But it is a shame that the investigation caused him hassle, and at such a level that he felt he had to leave. Janos

| There is no doubt the guy was a hero. However I cannot understand why they did not take any equipment with them. I've seen a few cliff rescues in my time and yes they do use alot of equipment. But not to take just a rope seems a little short sighted. The media will never let detail get in the way of a good story. John |
