Why that's outrageous! What about the bitter and lager drinkers? What about rounds of Aftershocks?

Sorry, I can believe, just, that they had only bought a supply of ???? to give everyone a glass but, where there is a glass and a tap ............ not to mention a science lab where the alcohol could have been evapourated off to leave a nice fruity drink?

Indeed, I suspect this was an initiative test to try out the students' ability to think on their feet.

Thank you for pointing that out. Unfortunate that I typed something then edited it without removing the the offending smilie. I agree with you & I would not want to see a snap decision made . I realise it is not easy to set up meatings & get everybody notified ,it takes time & it has only been 6 days including this weekend since I reported it to the head .

As I said before no alternative to alcohol is wrong, but a glass of wine under supervision is perfectly acceptable AFAIC.

I & some of the other parents including the govener who's child was involved will all be lobbying for the teacher to be disciplined BUT NOT dismissed ,she is a very good teacher who is actually respected by the students .

Indeed that is the main problem .I think there is only one parent who has a problem with "any" alcohol, everybody else including myself has no objection to a celebration drink .Our problem, is that there was no alternative on offer & more importantly that the teacher appeared to be pressuring the students to drink ! (In fairness she has admitted that she said what she said & that she could have worded it better .)

As a governor wasn't he partially responsible too?

It seems you have reached a fair outcome Colin.

would have said so - the board are sort of the employer. It should be their job to ensure that those who don't perform their job properly are dealt with appropriately. Giving a teacher a public flogging isn't really the way a governer should behave. Berate in private, support in public. (i.e. x acknowledges s/he shouldn't have done that. The matter has been dealt with to th satisfaction of the board of governers).

I would say action short of dismissal for a one off, best of intentions, episode is reasonable.

yup, as a governor we might not agree with some of the things that happen but will support unless very very bad, and then we stay tight lipped.
