Fun on DTW

The guy's an out and out liar, I've had first hand experience of his deceipt and lies having spent a week with him.

I've also done extensive research into him and his activities, including scams he's pulled, trying to get expeditions funded for locating and recovering bodies of lost airmen.

The Americans funded him for one, which turned out to be an aircraft which was regularly dived by locals that he'd claimed he'd found and still had the remains of american servicemen on board.

Another was a sidescan sonar image of a sunderland bomber which was supposed to have been done in a loch in scotland by him, which was proven to be an airfix model photoshopped to look like a scan. When rumbled he claimed someone had sent him the image.

Oh by the way, he has another alias on here AliJ which he claims is his sister, but he cocked up on a post, see thread #3 below signed by him on her post....what a d*ck. I wonder how many blokes on here have tried to chat her/him up???

As the father of two girls beginning to use the internet and becoming aware of chatrooms etc, this has really brought it home to me what an unsafe place the internet is. If this kind of devious manipulation and prying is going on a diving forum, how can anywhere be safe? Whoever this is ought to be thoroughly ashamed of himself. He is no more than a fraction away from the perverts we read about in tabloids and internet advice given out by schools.

On the other hand, it has enabled us to show our girls what kind of people there are out there and how important it is to be guarded. My sympathies for anyone who feels they have been taken in and lied to.

Anyway of making sure he stays off this site mods?

You can't say that AliJ has been an active member though the one thing I find very odd is the "apparent" chats he had with himself to generate interest

It's hard to judge how active he/she has been as various characters, and more worrying what pm's have been sent and to who. Obviously no one other than the sender or recipient would know, but using a female to chat to other females discussing his manhood is pretty low.

Look, I think we need to stop this. The point has been made, and the guy has been hung, drawn and quartered. I feel sorry for the people he's hurt, really I do, but I also feel sorry for him. What a sad person he is, if he needs to create various personas to get his business to work and his manhood caressed. In the long run, he's shot himself in the foot because you only have to do one bad deed and word gets out.

People like him are fuelled by attention and now we all know who he is, the chances are he'll go and set up again under a totally new name. The damage has been done. We all know, so now I personally think we should stop feeding his ego. Bully's thrive off attention - positive or negative - and we're giving him exactly what he wants... ATTENTION.

im glad that pm,s remain totaly private and should only be viewed in certain circumstances! and by jay or andy who are the boards owners ,and should only be if a member of the forum is recieving mail that would be deemed nasty or of a threatening nature ! thats when pm,s should be opened!

I was referring to the AliJ character who was here less than a month and hasn't logged on since Sept 06, so obviously hasn't been sending PM's.

It sounds like most of the "activity" has been kept to DTW - unless someone on here knows otherwise.

A google search on him brings up a lot of interesting things, although quite a few have been removed from their respective websites.

I think Julie is right .... we have had enough discussion on this chap/chapess/whatever.

Jay has a number of toys to assist with keeping this sort of thing to a minimum but YD is not a guaranteed idiot-free site .... even when you know the people concerned .... so I would strongly advise you treat pms on here from people you've never met with the same caution you would apply to emails at home.

I always say that because YDers go diving together it helps build a more trusting community but one should only really trust those who have earned it.

If anyone has "evidence" of wrong doing or concerns pertaining to this or any other individual then the best thing to do is to bring it to the attention of the moderation team or board owners, via pm or email. We will all treat any info with complete confidence and take any action deemed appropriate.

I think it's time we moved on ..... can I ask nicely that we end the public postings about this individual, please?
