Question "Thank you" - 2 little words..

The Oxford English Dictionary sites the meaning as: exclam a polite expression of gratitude. n an instance or means of expressing thanks.

Such a simple little phrase and yet we don't use it..

Why is this? Has it now become an 'implied' word?

I have been a member of this great forum for nearly 4 years now and one of the little things that irks me is when a member asks for advice, receives a plethora of helpful responses
(sometimes ) - yet sometimes the original poster never says 'thank you'.

It is free. It costs nothing and it makes respondants to a post feel that they've helped.

To those people who have helped me in the past - Thank you

Sorry - Its Monday morning and I've had a bad nights sleep. I need coffee.

I think, in common with a lot of folk round here, I normally do thank people, perhaps not publicly, but either via a green blob or a PM....an on occasion, by phone.

If someone has helped me out and my manners have slipped, I apologise and thank you all publicly.

As my mother used to say - Manners cost nothing.

I'm with Wilbo on this..

I couldn't believe that no one says "thank you" or even "thanks", so I searched all fora on yd and yes it comes back that these do not appear in any thread title nor in any post at all!

Shame on you YDers!

A big thank you to Wilbo for reminding us of our manners - thanks Dad!
Always DIR

Ok I'll just fetch the extinguisher....
Cheers, Paul

I think some thanks may not be given as it's difficult to know when to thank...

Do you thank every person individually immediately after they've posted?
Do you do a mass thanking when you feel you have enough completely different answers to your question?
Do you thank after the thread has gone off on it's 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th tangent?

I prefer to thank via green blob...
