Something similar happed to me. I defended the case, went to Court to set a hearing date, gathered evidence regarding visibility, timings and produced a witness - and they never showed up to Court for the Hearing. I got costs but got nothing for all the time I wasted on it. I thought about sueing the Thames Valley Police in the County Court and got a letter from the Chief Constable's Office asking if I knew that their defence expenses would come out of the Public Purse. (I might not have turned up either - but in the County Court each side pays its own expenses anyway.)

My friend Tim (Inspector in Met traffic) says that its the country bumpkin police that makes his life so difficult.

And now to add the rest of what my m8 has said!!!

"If there where no signs in place its simple your mate was not speeding. Why was the limit being reduced and who by? If it was for road works find out the contractor. He will know when and where the speed limits where reduced he will have a record of them. Sounds as though youve just got a normal set of shit thick coppers intent on being idiots and ruining someones day.
What you could say if there where temporary speed signs out that it was windy and on further inspection after the run in with the coppers that the signs had blown over! Its not your job to look out for speed signs on the floor..."

Damn i love this guy... lol

Re: Calibration certificate, I believe that is only important for automated penalties. As you seem to say that you were caught by 2 uniformed police, the calibration does not apply, nor does the oft-quoted "10% plus 2". In addition, the officers do not need to prove they have been trained in using the device - they are uniformed police (not civilian operators) therefore they are deemed able to judge speed without the device, and it is only used to check their belief.

The "evidence" that will be presented in court is the testimony of Police Officer 1. The "corroboration evidence" that will be presented - as speeding offences must be corroborated - will be testimony of Police Officer 2.

There is something called a "NIP Wizard" that you can fill out on the pepipoo website, if there are any legal loopholes or defences from the NIP they will tell you about them. IIRC, Police issued citations are very rarely successfully challenged (as opposed to automated ones).

Having looked at this in detail it seems that I have no chance its my word against two police officers.

Mind you I dont know what good they are they didnt even see the yellow car overtaking me.

Probably a mate of one of them - to all of the police officers out there that was a joke.

That sucks David, sorry to hear that. So if the police think you "look" like you were exceeding a temporary speed limit that didn't seem to exist - then tough
