Thie following thread and a slightly earlier version have been up for a long time How to Book a 'Planned Trip' - UPDATED - ALL PLEASE READ!! The rules, call them guidlines are there for skippers and divers, if we all use YD as a medium to organise or sign up to trips then seems reasonable that we all accept the rules too. Seems to me if you don't like the rules book directly through the skipper that way you agree to whatever Ts and Cs are agreed at the time. I guess it would have been different if Elfyn had asked for a deposit, I bet Zok wuld have tried harder to fill his slot then...

To be honest taking money up front for trips is the way it gets. Gary you are probably too trusting of people because you're a nice guy and think others will be the same. James organised a massive trip last year in the Farnes and collected just abotu everything in advance from memory. No faffing about, you want to go you pay by a set date. If not paid you're off the list. Easy. Oh, and green if anyone can guess which eye the monacle I use is in. Quick tip - same side as Napoleon wore his patch. Digs. |

As an occasional visitor to YD I was not aware of that thread until after the fact. If at the start of any thread organising trips there was a pointer or link saying that this trip being organised on the understanding that these guidelines must be understood and followed then fair enough, yes I would have tried harder to make sure I was available. Even a remark from AD’s reply to me on the thread saying “you do understand that if the places aren’t filled then we will still expect full payment” As far as I was concerned at the time everything was honky dory, that was until a couple of weeks after the trip when I received a PM asking for £140. So while I do accept that I was wrong for not following the rules, equally I am reluctant to make any payment because if I had known I would have been on the boat, and my family would have been celebrating my parents anniversary a couple of days later. As a final I’d just like to apologise to both Terry and Elfyn and just say it was never my intention to cause you any grief Andy |

Or when the client is "trusted" I am running about 10 trips this year, and as I know the skippers very well I have not paid a deposit for any of them. Now if I fcuk up they are going to be mighty displeased. Not sure if any of this is relevant, but thought I would say it anyways. Steve |

| I can understand and have sympathy for any skipper or organiser who has been stiffed on a boat trip. There must be nothing worse than having to fulfil their obligations to the paying divers knowing the trip is a non earner or even a loss maker. Perhaps for future trips someone could post a sticky with some basic rules. Ie deposit, final payment etc. Unless of course there is one. Then ignorance and other excuses cannot be used as a defense. Ignore me just spotted peebee's link to such a thread Last edited by Crieagle : 20-02-08 at 06:38 PM. Reason: Already a thread |
