| I lived for a couple of years in another country illegally. Yep, it's a really cosy life not being able to go to a doctor or hospital, doing 2000 mile road journeys because air travel is too risky, keeping a bag packed at all times, changing address frequently, etc... I didn't get any benefits because to walk into a government office and register for them would have been a ticket to the lockup. When you're living somewhere illegally, you don't tend to walk into government offices on a regular basis by choice. Yeah, I shouldn't have been there but I was and it was a risk and at the time staying here was not an option so it was worth the stretch. An easy life it isn't though.

| here in Ireland we have had an environmental levy put on plastic carrier bags and it really has cleaned up the over use and deposal of plastic bags it started out at 15c per bag but has since increased to 22c the government make about 20 million per year out of it to put back into cleaning up the environment. for them a suppose 20mil isn’t a large sum of revenue so the emphasis is on decreasing bag use and litter it from being in the retail trade for 16 years I can see that it dose work. rog |

My post was nothing to do with illegal immigrants per se, but everything to do with undesirables. Even I, as a Daily Mail reader, understand that there is occasionally a difference. BTW, I see that the "hateful rag" has another "anti bag" double page spread venting spleen in the direction of Tesco. Apparently Tesco are to blame for the misuse and abandonment of their bags by their customers. Another two pages which would have been better used reporting something more relevant and less hate filled. Not sure what tho'. Paul |

Finished work in M/cr on the Friday, flew out of Ringway at 5.00pm Saturday, landed 6.00AM Monday, slept until Tuesday. Tuesday AM, rang around about a job, Tuesday PM, returned the three calls from potential employers, Wednesday had a job interview, Thursday, had a job interview, Friday, lazed around the house, Saturday & Sunday, had a look around town, Monday, started work at new job. Been here 20 years, total time unemployed - 5 days and even then, technically, I was living off the 35 days holiday pay from my UK job. If you can't make a go of it here, you won't manage anywhere. Beats Surrey I reckon.

| I just went to Sainbury's with a big bag so I didn't need carrier bags but realised I was wasting my time because EVERYTHING WAS WRAPPED IN PLASTIC FILM! Or do turtles only drown if they eat carrier bags? Is it the handles?

Nothing's died from plastics I've bought/thrown away, handles or no. They all go in the bin, the bin gets collected and it goes to landfill. The problems result what with what slovenly people do with them afterwards. In terms of resource wastage, it's infinitesimal - I read a while back than here in Aus, we produce/import/use about 1500 tonnes a year. That's bugger all.

| The carrier bags aren't single use, I often see people picking up dog shit with them. What next? dog shit everywhere. It's a knock on effect.
