| BBC NEWS | Politics | Pupils 'to take allegiance oath' Quote:
Forcing teenagers to swear unblind loyalty to phil the greek and his family of inbreds. Given a large % of the UK want rid of the monarchy why on earth is there an idea to force them to swear allegiance to it ? I could possibly understand where they do it for a country but NOT to an unelected institution. What happens if someone refuses to do so? I fail to see the point of this - what happened to freedom of speech ? The ability to have your own opinion and view about something whether someone else agreed or not (oh yeah i remember, tony blair stopped it). You can't choose where you are born so why should you be forced to pledge an oath towards something or even worse, someone ?

| This wouldn't have anything to do with muslims would it? But the Goverments scared to say anything to them directly because, "you know?" their a bit touchy. ![]() |

| They (Muslims) will say that its against there religion and the goverment will back down or end up in the europen courts. Last time i swear allegiance to the queen was when i joined the army! R |

| I'd swear allegiance to any body that wanted to get rid of the queen. Still think the french had the right idea. I've got no affiliation with "british" either and wouldn't want to pledge any sort of loyalty to that.

Mind you, I can imagine the following exchange taking place: "Yeah, I did rob the bank / blow up parliament / bomb the city, so what?" <Petulant voice> "But you PROMISED you'd be good." Let's have a republic. |
