| Totally sympathise mate.....I remember on school sports day once, we were all ordered to remove jewellery before we ran/high jumped/threw javelins etc. So I dutifully took off my watch and ring (both confirmation presents) and put them in a small compartment in my kit bag (we were on the playing fields and had no access to lockers). On my return, some scrote had nicked them. Mum gave ME the roasting for taking them off !!!! Eventually she listened to me and played hell with the school, telling them that if they insist on removing childrens jewellery they should be responsible for keeping it safe. The school shrugged it's shoulders : 'I'm sorry Mrs Grosart, we have no proof it was anyone from this school !' Who the fcuk was it the bloody tooth fairy ??!!! Grrrr Buy some new masks mate, bill the school for the NEW ones and make an example of them. Oh, and sort your ex wife out too...... |

| Now that I've calmed down a bit.... a couple of you have made comments about me, the kids and my ex being at fault and you are right. But unless you are divorced and have gone through the hoops of buying stuff for your kids with the intention of it staying in your house only to see it vanish off back to "mum's" you won't understand how it works. I should have insisted that they bring the kit back to my house but I didn't, they were just as likely to use the stuff while they were at their mum's so why bother. Equally I don't let my ex know what I earn, it's easier that way, nor do I tell her how much I spend on the kids for similar "quiet life" reasons. She doesn't dive and probably the closest she get's to masks, snorkels etc is seeing the plastic beach stuff priced up at £3.50 for a set, she certainly wouldn't have expected the true costs involved. Believe me when I tell you that if you have ever been tempted to down play the cost of your kit when talking to your wife, it's even more sensitive where an ex is concerned. So whilst I am not happy with kids or Ex, the people I'm mostly angry with is the School. The value is immaterial, it's about acting responsibly and with respect.

In the end my parents weren't angry with me and got no-where with the school. The school and this teacher in particular just didn't care. Oh and PeeBee - Good on you for having a go at the school, you are right that they clearly have a total lack of respect for the property of their students. Maybe pushing the point of compensation and complaining will mean they take a bit more care of things they are leant in future.

| Way I see it is that there's 2 issues. 1- kids took equipment to school 2- school lost equipment In the case of 1, that's between parent and kids. Your problem, not schools. From the 1st post I assumend that you'd sort that out at home, and not put it on the internet. In the case of 2, the school is showing your kids (and any others that know) that they don't care about personal stuff. Take that onward and you get kids/teenagers/annoying chav types that vandalise fire exits and lead to death of innocent people. Melodramatic? No. I've seen the kids that do this now, and they're 9 years old. What's the answer there? Buggered if I know, but there's got to be one. Suggestions on a SAE to 10 Downing street.

| Update Just had a call from my Ex, seems that in response to my email the Head oredred a more thorough search and guess what, they've found them! I'm pleased about that but seems a shame I had to shout loudly to get them to do what they should have done anyway.

| Ex wives !!!! I totally sympathise with you on this , exwives can be very , shall we say haphazzard, with stuff the father gets for his kids and then gets borrowed over at their house, but you do feel selfish and petty if you dont let them use the stuff you got for them . I am afraid you , like many of us are in ano win situation . |
