Also, I don't know I could handle the emotional trauma of getting rid of all my prized possessions that I wouldn't be able to take with me. I know, I'm a soft tw*t!

And, in addition, I can't leave until .................. my parents are not well and in their early 80s, it would break my Mum's heart if I emigrated. My Dad doesn't know who I am anymore but I can't leave him to the tender cares of a state institution.

Perhaps 50 is too old to be thinking of emigrating? Oh well, it's nice to dream about it occasionally.

But it's not, nor will it ever be as it used to be. The past is a foreign country (Now who said that?)

Word to the wise.....don't, as I found to my cost, it's way cheaper to take them with you. Word of advice, buy some antique furniture then flog it here for twice the price - they can't stop you.

Dont forget airflight tax, Insurance premium tax, I could go on, I wont.
I was on the plane last week, the lady next to me and I started talking about the airflight taxes, I mentioned income tax etc and NI going up (again) and she mentioned her 'stoppages' now come out at close to 40%, which is odd as the max tax is supposed to be 40%, you'd have to earn a heck of a lot to average 40%. Then she mentioned she has a company car and fuel levy to pay.

I think that the biggest problem you have over there is one of mindset. And that is to the effect that it isn't your money/wealth, it belongs to some nebulous construct known as "society" and that you should all be grateful for what the govt lets you keep.

Yes, and I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the money wasting bastards for the pittance I seem to be left with.

It is the double taxing I don't like. Income tax I can live with. But then, when you spen the money you've already been taxed on you have to pay more tax.

Just don't spend any then.

My folks moved out to Spain last year. If I could get a similar job to my current one I'd move out, lock stock and barrel.

Hmmm, I wouldn't mind emigrating to Scotland. Cool clear water .......... lovely.

Finless,

I'd like to point out that Scotland is still part of the UK, despite their protestations....
