[quote=nickb;902924]So people that don't want to work overtime are lazy shirkers? Maybe they want to spend a bit of time with their families. Maybe they want to go diving.

Here's a thought: if your cousin's such a businessman, why doesn't he employ enough people so he doesn't need to ask people to work all the hours under the sun?
QUOTE]

Maybe I didnt make myself clear. I hate working overtime, I would love to spend every weekend with my family, of doing what I want, however I realise that if I told my company I was working bare hours, they wouldn't be able to justify keeping me in my job.

My cousin only needs people to work on occasionally, when they have breakdowns in production. In these instances they ask people to stop on, it wouldn't be practical to employ a complete seperate workforce to stop on once in a blue moon, for 2 or 3 hours. The local guys just shrug their shoulders & clock off.

Again, referring back to this point, its not spending the money as they want, we should all be able to do this, but to work in a country & not contribute anything to the economy. A previous point was peolpe working in Saudi, generally the people who go there to work have skills that the local people lack, or simply don't want to do.

The polish peolpe aren't offering any special skills other than the work hard. No different from the locals.

But as I implied, I don't want to get into huge socialist rant over this, it's just my quiet point of view. Fit in, & contribute to the community.

Are the Poles not paying tax like the rest of us then?

It seems it's fine for Brits to swan around the world coining it in, paying little or no tax and sending all the cash back here, but not OK for Johnny Foreigner to come over here, taking our jobs & shagging all our women, and do the same.

You didn't imply anything of the sort. You waded in with a rant slagging-off people that clearly have other things to do with their lives than line your cousin's pockets by rearranging their schedules, apparently with very little notice, to work overtime.

And WTF has socialism got to do with it? Or did you just throw that it as some sort of a dig at the people that don't concur with your bigoted POV?

My view is anyone's welcome as long as they contribute, the free handouts should be linked to what you've put in IE if you've worked for 10 years (number out of the air) and are made redundant you are entitled to your wage for x amount of time while you find new job, that's how the benefit system should work and that includes a lot of so called English too. Anyone is entitled to try and make a better life for themselves and bloody good luck to them for trying regardless of their country of origin what is English anyway born here? parents born here? grandparents where do you draw the line? I have a very good friend who pays more tax in a year than i can earn he's an immigrant and loves the country his religion is not christian/ catholic etc but he still throws a big party every year for his staff to celebrate Christmas. Live and let live you get out what you put in I'm sick of hearing the same old shite they steel our jobs send money home etc i work in other countries and send my money home does that mean i shouldn't live here. I love this country with all my heart even served for it (meant something to me) but I'm sick of all the moaning i even heard an Irishman moaning in Liverpool about all these bloody immigrants I'm sure we're all guilty of missing a good fry up when abroad once in a while just like I'm sure people from other countries miss their local dishes i for one love some of their local dishes so it's bloody great we can try Mongolian, Indian Chinese Thai etc

Is such a personal attack appropriate??

I was not ranting I was agreeing with a post which as I interpreted it was saying that if a person migrates to a country then they should make the effort to integrate with the ways of that country, to contribute to that country and not try to recreate their old country.

People lets keep it clean with no gouging, biting or hitting below the belt and remember to defend yourself at all times, go to your respective corners and when you hear the bell come out fighting

Safe diving,

If I were to add to this rainy afternoon's debate, this is the point I would make too. There is such a belief in "entitlement" and resentment among the work shy in this country. I spent years trying to get folk back to work who didn't want to go to work. It's not about money, it's about self repect and ethics. That seems to be what is lacking in a large cross section of our population.

There also seems to be a sense of "learned helplessness" and spite towards those that do work hard and do well, no matter where they come from. It's a very complex pychological/social problem and one with no simple answer.

There is not much point in being angry, you can't change the world unless you get into politics. And you may shorten our own life if you are continually cross and stressed.

Cazy, don't you mean k**c pu? And the personal attack wasn't warrented either... NickB you're an ass Now, that outta the way has anyone noticed how angry the young Asian men of the UK are? Can one really believe that they don't have an agenda to turn GB into an Islamic state, I mean thats what they say they intend to do don't they? And as for 'invasions' from foriegners shaping our land, well I reckon thats true and the last - the Normans (basically Vikings living in northern France) - put the topping on who we Brits are, and its time to stay that way .

Polish workers?
Well, apart from actually turning up for work and working hard, without 50 tea breaks and no-body leaning on a shovel, and finishing the day with a smile and a good job well done - they dont have any skill that we dont.

Whats your average english workman doing? Skiving off when it suits him, wasting time, employing his mates to sit around doing jack sh*t, ending the day at 3pm with a laughing sneer at the mug thats paying the bill, and not caring wether the jobs done well or not. More often not.

Its not about skills, its about what you want.
The 'average' english worker has behaved for years like he wanted to throw all his privileges away. Maybe now he has.

That's all the UK's major employers fucked at a stroke then. People like Tescos that don't pay any UK taxes but want all the free handouts from the government and ride roughshod over planning applications to despoil our once pleasant land.

All this shit is so far removed from the modern economic reality of the globalised free market its just a statement of ignorance. Where do you all think the money comes from in London? Selling little union flags (made in China) to US tourists?

If people want to live in Daily Mail la-la land with old maids cycling to church by the village green then vote UKIP and watch England ('cos the Welsh and Scots will pull out in a nanosecond) disappear into oblivion.

Now, more than ever is the time for the UK to join the Euro and become part of the economic powerhouse that is modern Europe. The US economy is screwed and inflation is biting into the Asian Tigers. With UK backing the EU could become the dominant world force of the 21st century. Britain's multiculturalism and world standing, its tolerance of others and willingness to embrace and live with people of other religions have made it an example that the EU needs badly to follow. Sadly the mentality of the little englanders now rivals the intolerant, backward and out-of-date view of the very people caricatured in the bullshit of the original post.

What a shame.

Chris
