| Exactly how much of our petrol costs are tax to the greedy Government? They keep warning us about the economy but if they reduced the amount of tax they stick on petrol all the other costs wouldn't keep rising as well. I also think there are some bloody greedy garage owners out there exploiting us all. The range if prices for petrol in my relatively small town in ridiculous. I just tried to fill up, with the needle hovering dangerously on empty (so I didn't risk the trek up the road to Morrisons where I know it will be cheap). The 'Total' garage one mile down the road from me had sold out (stupid panic buyers) but was charging 110.9 a litre. I continued on to the one I really wanted to go to another mile down the road. This is another Total garage yet they were charging 106.9 a litre and had loads of petrol left. WTF

| I bought yesterday at Tesco - £105.9 I wanted some for today. I think companies like the Texaco and BP in the next village are just money grabbers their fuel seems to go up daily and at the moment unleaded is 110.9p and diesel is 119.9p |

| What they haven't mentioned in the news is that Grangemouth is about to have a shutdown on some of its refinery heaters, so the strike at the same time fits in nicely for them. It's not the refinery or owners that are pushing the price up it's the garage owners now looking to make a killing on fuel they brought at say a 20% profit margin are now selling it at 60% profit margin because they know as soon as the media say "there's no need to panic buy" everyone goes into panic mode and buys more than they need. I remember the last one i needed to fill up to go home for the weekend and this bloke who had been quing for about 45min infront of me filled up his car and 6 jerry cans and was giong home to get more!. Why i dont know as he walked to work

I know when I worked in a pub, kitchens and takeaways used to have to pay for waste oil removal, if you ask arround the local area they may let you take it foc then filter, add the Kerosene and pay the fuel duty Marc (Glad I only live 1 1/2 miles from work) |

| Unfortunately we only have one garage in Stromness and it is now £1.40 per litre, Lucky you got your fuel early Helen

| Bio diesel sounds like a great idea but there is not enough - nowhere near enough - oil to meet present demand. I used to make it for my Audi but I have been unable to get the oil from previously reliable sources. There are lots of people trying to make bio diesel at the moment who don't know what they are doing and are likely to knacker their engine. The environmental cost of using virgin vegetable oil has been mentioned earlier in the thread and means that I won't do that. Incidently the cost of virgin vegetable oil has gone up about 75% over the last year due to bio fuel production. If people want to save money on fuel think about how you drive - easier on the right foot is easier on the pocket - do you really need the air con on all of the time - could yo use puvlic transport / or share the driving - do you need to make the journey could you walk / cycle? The above is the not answer for everyone I realise but if you live in a city then there really are options much of the time. |
