What do you do with people like this ?

Ok, so, here's the scenario. You discover that someone (well, two people, a couple) have designed a little webpage to slag off a good mate of yours, generally humiliate him and make him look stupid. This mate happens to be one of life's rarities - an elderly person who will selflessly help anyone, has never harmed a fly and does many a good turn for the aforementioned couple. You are upset at this and confront them in a pub, pointing out that the individual would be very upset if they were to hear of it. Many others have seen the webpage and agree that it was out of order, especially given the meek, polite and generally good nature of the person. The couple claim it was a 'joke' but have already taken the page down (probably because it does not come across as a joke and is in particularly bad taste). The couple look ruffled and angry.
After the couple leave the pub early, you go out to your car and find a large key scratch down the side of it.
Months later, you are parked at an event and the couple are seen close by. Your car is fine, but you are so busy organising the event that you can't stay with your car the whole time. It is left unattended for many hours. On returning some hours later, you have a flat tyre. On changing the tyre, you find a screw embedded in it.
Concidence ? Or not ? Paranoia ? Proof - very hard, though had the tyre not gone down so quickly, with the weight of cylinders in it and travelling a long way down the motorway, the consequences to me and my passenger could have been pretty nasty. So what do you guys think ? Two lots of bad luck ? Or more to it ? Your thoughts please...

If your going to let someones tyres down, you don't put a screws in them.
So I would say they didn't do it.

On the scratched car front? Wait till they go on holiday and post maggots through their letter box

there is paranoia and genuine, reasonable suspicion, sounds like reasonable supicion to me, depends a little on the tone of that 1st conversation. Thinking back on it, where you pretty forthright in voicing your opinion of them?

The screws would have been really hard to get in and they would have looked erally sus if they did it so I guess that one is vandalism and the other bad luck.

Flies and milk I would suggest.

Id confront them again,

You will be able to tell if they are lying.

Then you can plan your retribution but i would no be so silly as to post up here for ideas of what to do as you might be the one that the police call on.

I basically asked them (infront of others - you see, they like to appear squeaky clean) if the individual concerned knew about their activities. Clearly they didn't want him to know so I told them I had printed it off and asked if they would like me to show it to him ?? Of course, the individual would have been devastated to hear of it and no way was I going to hurt him by telling him. So those of us who had seen it made a pact to keep it from him as he is such a nice bloke. But I wanted to ruffle their feathers a bit to make them realise that behaviour like this is spiteful and unwarranted. They were clearly sh!tting themselves and took their anger out on my vehicle.

The scratch sounds deliberate. Screw in tyre possibly not if the car hadn't moved. Screws are hard to put in by hand.

If you noticed it after moving the car, then is a possibility that it was deliberate as it is quite easy to stand a screw between the tyre and the ground when it is stationary, and when you move off the weight of the car pushes it in. Please don't ask me how I know this.......
