Make no mistake, this government (and Cameron's in future, despite their protestations, this little gem is a godsend for the tories too and they get the added value in being able to say the voted against) will be locking up all sorts of people for all sorts of reasons entirely unconnected with terrorism. After all, how do you know that you're going to charge someone with an offence under the terrorism acts until you've uncovered the evidence you need to charge them? In short, you could now be locked away for 42 days on nothing more than the whim of the police and never appear in court or be charged with anything.

The buying off of the DUP is what sickens me most. It is a corrupt vote that will abused routinely if it ever becomes law. I pray the Lords have the guts to throw it out.
It's not just the internment. It's also the often ignored points like the home secretary being able to swap out a coroner with his own staff in investigations.

The Lords can only ever delay legislation, they can't prevent it and they can't even force any changes.

The only hope is that some labour MPs find a backbone but I won't be holding my breath. Don't forget that, according to opinion polls, a huge 'majority' of the population of Britain wants this legislation.

So, the charade of parking Scimitars outside Heathrow to counter fictional 'threats' and the 'binary liquid explosive' outright lie, have succeeded in convincing people that there is sufficient 'risk' to the continued existance of the nation that they will sleepwalk into accepting almost anything.

Pretty soon the 'threat' of terrorists looking up how to make a bomb on the internet and the 'threat' of the apparent army of paedophiles waiting to abuse our children will mean the government can justify logging every key stroke we make on our PCs 'just in case'.

There is much of this which is a working plan

I fully intend to sail down to see my old mate in Oz and say hello to her new baby (who will by then be a wee lad). I intend to dive all the way down and probably not bother coming back. As you say a compressor is needed.

I will not be selling dive spaces, but applications for crew for part/all of the trip will be considered

You are wrong on one point however. My aunt was called Joyce Vyonne Baxter, known as Vonnie (not purple though) (abbreviated to Aunt Von or A Von on xmas cards) her husband was indeed called Robert. So Bob was my uncle. My dad's mother was called Fanny so she was my Gran not my aunt. (Granny Fanny....)

Indeed. But what we can hope they do is the same as previously and rule that the law - if passed - is incompatible with human rights law, the same as they did the detention without charge case BBC NEWS | UK | Terror detainees win Lords appeal.

Of course, this means that we'll have to wait for a test case to be taken and then crawl all the way to the HoL (or Supreme Court as it'll be by then) and even then, for the govt at the time to actually go and make amends.
