So Whats The Diffrence Then ?

I was thinking the other day and after i woke up due to brain overload i was thinking what is the diffrence between Dwain Chambers the athelete and Amywhinge House. One took drugs and got caught and is now banned which is fair enough and is hated by loads of professionals etc and Amy Whingehouse still takes drugs, has no respect for her fans, has a druggy partner who,s in jail and the majority of ppl feel sorry for her, music channels still play her music,is still allowed to play at gigs etc.....

I think their should be the same rule across the board and not to certain ppl....

What sort of standard is that setting for kids in the future then if we allow it to go on....

    Thats it rant over

I think the argument is (and not one I agree with) that he took illegal drugs to enhance his performance and win medals and received a life time ban (again something I disagree with) and now he is running for the country again. Chambers is running faster now drug free then when he was on drugs and it needs to be taken into account this is without a coach to support and guide him. I reckon some of the competitors that are moaning should have put their best foot forward and beat him on the track that way he would never have qualified and the argument would have been a mute point. Also by him stating that there are other athletes taking drugs and not naming them has pissed off the athletics powers that be.

Whereby Amy Whitehouse is a smack head and it is a known fact that many people with mental health problems resort to using illegal substances to keep the demons away. So the general public may have more sympathy for her and they might also like her big hair and mini skirts.

If I remember correctly there were a number of "artists" in the 60's that believed that drugs also enhanced their performance.

I think the root of the answer to OP's question lies in the way the media portray people - they demonise drug using atheletes and treat the drug use of "artists" such as Whinehoe and that Baby Shambles muppet as endearing quirks rather than as failings.

Of course it goes without saying.

It would have been interesting to hear Hendrix, Joplin, Morrison play their music drug free. And thats both the musician and the listener I am on about

Serious note I do listen to their music and still find it incredible.

I watched the footage of Dwain Chambers run over the weekend... and I have to say that the effects of his drug use are still there to see... his muscle development is just in a totally different class to the "clean" competitors.

For a change, I think the UK Olympic team have the right rules... all athletes know that taking banned substances is against the rules (even my eight year old is provided with information on the anti-doping policy of the British judo association), but, as usual in our "reward without responsibility" culture, it will soon be the situation that you can go out, use whatever performance-enhancing drugs you like, get caught, and then whinge to some judge or other about how unfair it all is, and how they should let you run anyway!

Sorry, Dwain Chambers he knew what he was doing, he should stay banned...

    Andrew
(and yes, I used to do sport to a high enough level that I had to check the list of banned substances before taking any over-the-counter cold remedies...)

the differance is chambers case was proven... whinehouse is just photos with no physical evidance but I do take your point.

Another differance..chambers drugs improved performance... after seeing footage of winehouse at t in the park I would say the opposite is true....bloody awful attempt on her part

    Dwain Chambers:

His greatest crime has been to admit using drugs.

Why should somebody be punished for the rest of their life for something? It's not like he killed someone. What is this - Sharia law for athletes?

I don't believe in "sending a message". It is effectively punishing you for something you have not done ... for something somebody else might do in the future. It's exactly as dumb as it sounds.

What's the point of anti-doping rules? Is it to ensure "fair" competition? In which case why not ban the huge entourages of "fitness coaches", "psychological coaches", "diet experts", etc, etc, that top athletes from only certain countries have access to?

Why would anybody want to go to the Olympics anyway? Pfft.

    Amy Winehouse:

Is judged on her ability to create songs you might want to listen to. Last I heard that's not supposed to be a competitive sport. Fairness isn't an issue. Buy them, or don't buy them - your choice.

    Role models:

Yeah right - we've done this already.

Where did this idea that musicians are "role models" come from anyway?

Out of the thousands of "artists" I have seen or heard about over the years, I can count on a couple of fingers the ones that I would consider a suitable "role model".

Really - does anybody actually think that way?
