I think you guys are right, that the market did have to drop but as its still dropping nobody in there right mind would buy at the moment... its got to stabilise before things are to start moving again.

My firm has lots of work on its books..... its just stopped... a house here and there.. whenever the builder sells one.

market forces dear boy, you know supply and demand.

demand high priceds high- china has been sucking steel in like nobodies business for the last 5-6 years, we can't dig fresh ore out of the ground quickenough thats why steel copper etc have shot through the roof.

oh and please stop going on about the poles and russians earning a pittance to english teams.

I used to run polish labour for one of my previous employers, we paid them the same price per house as we did the english boys.

only difference is that instead of 1 pair doing the rewiring they would have 2 pairs in them, they did them twice as fast and to a higher standard then the brit teams, with no whining about not having materials as they looked ahead and planned what they needed a week in advance.

Also, people like me who could happily get a mortgage and a house are waiting for the housing market to properly crash before we buy in - if you catch it now there's definite negative equity coming, but if I catch it just before it recovers I get a good deal and the value of the property should increase quickly once we bounce back.

My current estimates put it at approx 2 years before that's going to happen. As long as I can continue saving up I can buy a house at this point easily. I'm aiming for a 5 bed detatched in Notting Hill. Should get that for £150,000

Personally we need a bit of recession to balance things up again, but if this goes as badly as some previous recessions we'll be in trouble. I'd like to see Gordon say "you know what, I'm in the wrong job" and get back to Chancellor to deal with this, and then find someone with some charisma to try and rescue Labour so we don't end up with a Tory government, I've seen what a recession under them did, and not convinced I want to see things that bad again!

    Digs.
thats what SWMBO did in London, we have a great house in a great location and a mortgage thats not even a 1/4 of the value of the house, I don't think we will be in negative equity for a long time and if we do then the world is properly fecked

there are a shed load of major players on shaky ground at the moment Gratte brothers are looking for a lot of redundancies as they have no work to move the guys onto when they finish current projects.

Ha ha ha hoooooooha ha ha hah ah aaahhhhhh ha

6% not reasonable thats reeely funny to any one who was around last time. I bought my first house when mortgage rates dropped to a record low

    7.5%.

We were all so excited that they were giving away money so cheep.

At that time you were able to get 3 X single income max or 2.5X joint income max. As a highly paid skilled worker i was on 13,000 a year which allowed me 39,000 max mortgage. If you wanted to borrow more than 3X your income you needed a 40% deposit.

Within two years of getting my 7% mortgage interest rates hit 14%

I moaned about it an my mum and dad laughed at me because they remembered paying 23%

Also, people like me who could happily get a mortgage and a house are waiting for the housing market to properly crash before we buy in - if you catch it now there's definite negative equity coming, but if I catch it just before it recovers I get a good deal and the value of the property should increase quickly once we bounce back.

You will be waiting about another 5-6 years for the bottom of the market. The economic cycle is 7 years up seven years down and its remained pretty constant since records began.

Can i please now have groveling apologies from all this people I warned about this who said it would never happen and things would just level off a bit.

I am amazed people actually believed 4.5% interests were sustainable. I am more amazed that the Banks haven't put the interest rates up to more like 10% right now. There is a credit crunch. People misinterpret this term. What it means is the banks are short of funds to loan out.

So how do banks raise hard cash money? They put up interest rates of course. However for reasons only Gordon Brown's mob are privy too they are falsely and unsustainable low across Europe.

My current estimates put it at approx 2 years before that's going to happen. As long as I can continue saving up I can buy a house at this point easily. I'm aiming for a 5 bed detached in Notting Hill. Should get that for £150,000
In 1995 i did a job on a house in Clapham that the bloke bought for £160 four bed mid terraced. Recently they were selling for £750,000+ No parking at all no garden. Thats how insane things had got.

Personally we need a bit of recession to balance things up again, but if this goes as badly as some previous recessions we'll be in trouble. More history lessons required.

When things get tough we bring in the Tori's to sort out the labor F-ups and overspending. The once the Tories have weathered the storm and pissed every one off with sever cut backs the economy picks up we kick them out and put Labor back in power.

    Its always been that way.

Mind you Tony Blare did a good impersonation of a Tori government so maybe the mold will be broken.

historically speaking if you look at the overall spending and cuts that each brand of cnts apply both come out pretty even. The narrative image that both parties try to present about themselves is on the whole fluff and image.

The worlds politics and economics has been changing around us for the past decade but right now those changes are kicking in. Ever since the end of the second world war the occupant of downing street has behaved as if number 10 is close to the levers of control, It isn't.

the muppets at the top know they compete on who can do the least damage while telling us its about who can do the best job

    Always an upside

Presumably the down turn in the economy will reduce the number of ‘branded vans’ turning up at inland dive sites. This will create more space for those less affected by the current economic climate and enable one to park the ‘Range’ closer to the water after setting off at a more civilized time.
