| Imported post <font color='#000F22'>Bren - a point that I made earlier was that I rejected the undemocratic nature of the commission. Did you not read it? How is Col Bufton Tufton by the way?

It was the Guardianista manner of condescension in which you said: "Thanks Bunny - at last someone got the point", like it, the point, was mutually exclusive to you and a handful of others. Col. Bufton Tufton? Oh, he's fine, and as much of a caricature as some of your retorts. Touché

| Gav, here ya go. Edmund Burke (1729 - 1797): "The wise determine from the gravity of the case; the irritable, from sensibility to oppression; the high minded, from disdain and indignation at abusive power in unworthy hands." [from "A Philosophical Inquiry into the Origin of Our Ideas of the Sublime and Beautiful", 1756] Just about covers the ground, what?

| Imported post <font color='#000F22'>Bren - the point I was making was that I had raised the issue of "the question" in my first post and Bunny was the first who had mentioned it despite heavy traffic on the issue. I was congratulating him on his insight into this issue and not intending to be at all condesending. As for the poor quality of retorts from the left I suggest you have a chota peg with the memsahib later and toast Col Bufton-Tufton's daughter - I'll try and think something up whilst plotting the downfall of the civilised West and being and apologist for terrorists, anti-zionists and Noel Edmonds. I noticed this about your paper of choice reported in the Scotsman last week. "But spare a thought for the long-suffering staff at the paper, dubbed the Daily Torygraph because of its right-leaning politics. In an interview last week, editor Martin Newland, right, tried to put into words the thoughts and fears of his staff. "We are sitting, buttocks clenched, waiting for the next episode," he said. Buttocks clenched? Just like public school all over again eh Bren

| Imported post Hi Helen. I looked at the link and now I'm confused. The boys are arguing about newspapers just to confuse us. (I read Corriere della Sera if you need to know, Bren). The thing is a constitution - I stand corrected. However, it seems to have things in it the government don't want. Inalienable right to free movement? Surely Blunkett wants all those soccer thugs to have their passports withdrawn? There's lots to agree with and some to take issue with. I am mildly positive. I will be interested to see what Blair et al eventualy ask, the real issue is (thanks bunny/gav) the question they pose... Chris.

Oops! Bunny's a HER!!! Public school?? Wouldn't know mate, I went to a Secondary Modern after failing my Eleven Plus. As for the paper, I have my own issues with it, it is not the beast it once was. Anything else I can help ya with?

| Imported post <font color='#000F22'>Bunny - I apologise unreservedly. For me the interesting thing about this issue is the great amount of agreement between us. It appears that the question itself is important, the commission needs to be democratised and that it's not an issue that one can make cut and dried statements on just yet. Just having the debate is important - as I doubt if we'll get much sense from any newspaper over the coming months.
