Never had anyone call at the door here, or back south. However, i would just say "no thanks" smile politely and make sure they had got away without being attacked by the mental goose who thinks she is a rottweiler.

I'm a bit torn here between thinking its a bad thing or not.

Maybe out of the 1000 doors they knock on, one person will be affected by what they say, maybe it will give them strength when they had none, or suddenly there was someone who actually gave a rats ringpiece about them when no-one else did. For the sake of that one person, i can manage to answer the door and say "no thanks" every once in a while. Do it every week and i might change my opinion.

And it didnt take long for the intolerant religious lunatics to whine about it:

BBC NEWS | UK | 'No God' campaign draws complaint

Typical of them, anything that dares to question their irrationa belief they whine and complain about. Completely unable to accept someone may have a different view to them.

wouldn't mind if religion actually did something useful but it does nothing but divide a species into factions of hatred.

I guess i'm athiest as i don't believe there is any one creator of all this. I firmly believe there are things out there for which we have no ability to understand yet, but then again who would of thought 200 years ago, we could fly to the moon or travel across the world in less than a day.

Religion, from howling at the moon, worshipping the sun to believing in prophets and gods is simply a legacy from the times when we knew so very little about ourselves or our place in the universe. As we learn more about ourselves and our place we can see that religion is less and less the answer. Sure, some people claim to to be of great benefit but all the same they could probably get the same benefit from other non-religious activities they simply choose to hang their hopes on religion to make them a better person and answers all the questions.

On the whole if i really had to make a rational choice of what to worship,i'd go for the sun, it is at least real and has a direct affect on our lives. Worshipping the changes of seasons and thanking the sun for good years and praying against bad seems to make more sense than worshipping a god for which we have not one credible single proof of existance.

I'm not exactly religious, more agnostic than atheist, but I'd disagree. A lot of people find strength from their faith and I wouldn't ever say that is not useful!

Personally, a wise person once told me "believe in yourself and everything is possible" and that serves me well.

    Cheers/Nic

Being Irish we had the church run the country for decades and they still possess a hold over government and alot of the population. Religion is a dangerous thing, the ability for a person to put faith into something which has no evidence or substancial facts apart from stories passed down by people, how can a god create a book, and how can a person run their life according to it, so taking it to the fundamental core and some picking out the bits that suit. If someone said they had a god they prayed to who no one heard off, chances are they would be labelled disallusioned, but if it was a large group of people, it then can be seen as a religion. When someone points out the absurdity of faith, the rsponse is, thats what faith is, putting your trust in something you dont truely understand or have proof off, if we where to apply that to diving (or any other activity), I think there would be fewer YDers posting here.
    Cheers,
