wouldn't mind if religion actually did something useful but it does nothing but divide a species into factions of hatred.
I guess i'm athiest as i don't believe there is any one creator of all this. I firmly believe there are things out there for which we have no ability to understand yet, but then again who would of thought 200 years ago, we could fly to the moon or travel across the world in less than a day.
Religion, from howling at the moon, worshipping the sun to believing in prophets and gods is simply a legacy from the times when we knew so very little about ourselves or our place in the universe. As we learn more about ourselves and our place we can see that religion is less and less the answer. Sure, some people claim to to be of great benefit but all the same they could probably get the same benefit from other non-religious activities they simply choose to hang their hopes on religion to make them a better person and answers all the questions.
On the whole if i really had to make a rational choice of what to worship,i'd go for the sun, it is at least real and has a direct affect on our lives. Worshipping the changes of seasons and thanking the sun for good years and praying against bad seems to make more sense than worshipping a god for which we have not one credible single proof of existance.
To be aware of a single shortcoming within oneself is more useful than to be aware of a thousand in someone else - His Holiness Dalai Lama.
