Collective nouns.

I wasn't sure where to put this question, but, as the first part of my enquiry relates to diving I thought here would be OK even though the balance would be better placed in the Non Diving Posts section.

Fairly recently there was a humorous thread about the collective noun for divers. I believe I favoured "a dump of divers". Can anyone remember if there was a consensus on which should be adopted.

Secondly, I am now interested in hearing of more collective nouns either real OR humorous (please identify which if you do decide to join in).

Thirdly, is there a book on the subject available.

Tks.
Bryan - suffering a thinness of knowledge.

I thought it was a "faff of divers" which was the most popular on the poll.

I saw a book on the subject some time ago, more of a lighthearted thing than a reference work... Lots of pretty pictures and maybe the following (or something very similar at least - this is off good old google)

A murder of cows

A clowder of cats

A leap of leopards

A sloth of bears

A rafter of turkeys

A smack of jellyfish

A skulk of foxes

A labor of moles

A peep of chickens

A crash of rhinoceroses

A paddling of ducks

A siege of herons

A rag of colts

A drift of hogs

A charm of finches

A trip of goats

A knot of toads

A shrewdness of apes

A parliament of owls

A troop of kangaroos

A gaggle of geese

A pride of lions

A watch of nightingales

A muster of peacocks

A exaltation of larks

Wow, lots of collective nouns (I sound like a spod, don't I?)

And don't forget:

A bother of boys
A gaggle of girls

Sounds like whoever thought of those two had been out in Romford recently!
