Word just hit the streets that my name's been mentioned on here. Since I've got better things to do than read the whole inane topic, I'll reserve judgement on the validity of the topic. No doubt it's not diving related.

I understand that Bren Tierney has mentioned my name in conjunction with his "discussion" with wetlettuce. I guess these two are the main protagonists of the whole thread.

When Bren is challenged by someone his way of responding is to squash them down. Unfortunately I have a strong personality and I am entitled to my opinions whilst accepting that others are entitled to differ. No matter.

Whether or not people choose not to discuss deco-on-the-fly is entirely up to them. I can understand the commercial and diving related implications. Go and do the course. It's really not anything that hasn't been known and implicity understood in technical diving circles for years, DIR is a bit dressed up yes but the basic principles remain the same.

Banning people for having opinions (whether or not they are deemed radical) implies more about the challenge to people's value sets when they feel they have to "quash" free opinion.

Don't bother banning me again - I just popped up during a surface interval and registered to respond to the inane banalities being postulated about me.

Going back down now...glug glug glug....

Hi AnneMarie - long time eh? Not banning anyone as, to be honest, I have more important things to do.

Regarding reputation
I added this feature as a bit of a laugh because I thought most of you would be mature enough to use it. Yes, there has been a bit of 'first day of term' pranks etc but on the whole most of you seem to be using it 'in the spirit of YD' as someone put it earlier.

To the few of you who feel agrieved by negative feedback, perhaps there is a reason as to why you got it in the first place? The answer normally lies close to home. There are many others who have attracted large amounts of positive rep points (including some people who would definitely be classed as 'outspoken' on the boards.

If it upsets you, then don't play and for those of you who feel YD is now ruined and have decided to take your bat and ball home:

I`ve only read the first and last pages, so someone may have mentioned something like this before. Because us down at the Bristol Massive are such a tight knit bunch of anoraks, we are going to give each other loads and loads of positive reps, just like the results phase of the European Song Contest where the Greeks always give the Cypos. full marks.

What started out as a bit of a laugh has got a bit serious. The Handbagger Nets are having a real field day at our expense. It would certainly be better if whoever made the comments on the reputation thing had to identify him/her self.

Having been accused of petty agency bashing on the last thread I started, I do feel a little aggrieved that the author did`nt have the balls to put their name to it. As long as PADI rip divers off, and BSAC adopt advances in diving technology at the speed of a striking slug, then they are, as far as I`m concerned, up for critisism

Can someone clear this up for me, to give/take points is it 50 posts or 50 points coz I have had a couple of greys which I assume would be good rep as I'm sure I have not offended anyone and I have given rep points which may now not have been recognised, IMO if we are not carefull we will have a grey underclass of people giving rep that is not translated into points and remember "what do points make"

I've been watching closely from the sidelines and it's been mildly amusing to witness the antics of the participants, personally I don't want to play but obviously some people do and good luck to them. I always thought YD was a place where you could have a good natured "discussion" and it is this diversity of experience and opinion that makes it work so well. If things get too heavy one of the mods will, and should ,step in and point out the error of their ways. That's what we all agree to when we sign up.

Perhaps we should adopt the "naughty step" where the perpetrators can take a time out to reflect on their behaviour. Anyone who doesn't want to play can do a "Norman Tebbitt" - get on their bike.
