| Pah! it's only a bit of fun, I've just had my first neg rep, so what? If someone has a real problem with me they can come out and say it, if not then I'm not going to worry about anonymous comments. Same with pseudonyms, if someone wants a silly handle, fair enough, but unless they can post with their name within the text, who cares about the views of a ficticious character. Tis the nature of the internet, is that not so Tom "Oh great analyst of the bandwidth commications " ? Chee-az Steve (real name ) W (real abbreviation |

| Not feeling sorry for you Rick, just agreeing that people seem to be bandying around negative rep (anonymously) for absolutely no reason. Seems that some (cowardly) people like having a pop at others to make themselves feel better. Oh and Helen I completely agree, tried but "You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to HelenM again."

| I don't think it's anything to get too stressed about. IMO it will be very much like a kid with a new toy. The next few weeks will be spent with people giving out rep points as fast as the system will allow, and then they'll lose interset. Everyone on here knows who has a pucka reputation, as evidenced by their previous posts, after a while the green/red boxes will come to mean sweet FA! In the meantime, lets just treat rep points in the way I'm sure the admins anticipated - as a bit of fun! Daza (Last seen sprinting into the distance with his rep points under his arm, so no bugger can take them away!) EDIT: NOOOOOOOOOOOO. Ten rep points gone in 4 mins! When i said it didn't mean anything i was joking!!! Bum. It took me ages to get them. Back to being an unknown quantity again! Last edited by Darren A : 17-07-04 at 02:57 PM. |

There is a fourth option (which would be more appropriate for professionally oriented boards - IT type stuff for instance) where rep can be an indicator of whether someone is likely to know what they're talking about or not. I think that's less applicable to YD, which is basically a social forum (even though it also has an information exchange function). The anonymity aspect seems unpopular - actually, I'd say that was one of the best aspects of the system. Anonymity allows people to express their feelings more freely. For example, if I thought Helen or Steve (for example) had said something bloody stupid in a post, I might be too timid to post a response disagreeing if I thought there might be some potential backlash. Having said that though, most people on YD seem neither shy nor timid! What does seem clear though, is that some people are getting upset by the whole thing. For that reason, I was wondering if it was worth asking Jay to disable it (if the system can't simply be switched off, which I suspect it can, it can certainly be set up in such a as to stop it working). Maybe we should start a poll, with two options - leave it on, or switch it off - and ask Jay to go with the majority vote after (say) a week? Any thoughts?
