Brother Aclivity and Sister H, no, you are not alone.

It's amazing the effect a cat-o'nine-tails can have on Grammar class

This sort of thing is very high on my agenda at the moment as I am writing my thesis and am therefore in theory thinking about every word - te he! I have to say I still do not really understand the difference between the hundreds of verb clauses and many other things referred to in Gavin's first post in this thread. Thankfully my boss does and therefore the corrected version returns to me rather different from the original.

However, one thing that really gets to me is the use of "your" as a shortened version of you are. It is often used at the beginning of a post which makes it even worse!! The other thing of course is the use of text language in a written sentence.

I am not perfect, but I thought I would share my grievences.

(p.s. I did check my trusty "Collins Paperback English Dictionary" before posting this today, just in case I'd be picked up by the Pedant's Pedant.)

Or even 'inappropriate'! So, your copy of 'Collins' wasn't much help to you then?

Yes, Tom's away bestowing his equanimity upon the masses. He's good like that

Just while the Corner is a hive of activity (a hive of Aclivity?), Bren, please can you change the title of this thread to Pedants' Corner. We definitely need a plural not a singular
