Is it your reg, then no but if it is someone elses I would think about liability if you go ahead although, lets face it, it is not difficult...your call though
Are you prepared to die for your beliefs or just to dye your hair....
now about this insurance thing :-)
op yes its easy... if it goes wrong could someone take you to court... well
question why did you ask ?

i ask because i tried to buy a din wheel and a cylinder valve locally from a lets just say rather infamous dive shop up here
they sold me the valve but not the din wheel,as i dont have an apeks service ticket
id argue the valve is potentially more of a risk as if it goes wrong its the fillers who get hurt whereas the din wheel is on my reg so no one is at risk but me?
btw i ordered said part from a reputable online dealer the same evening and amazing managed to screw it together with an allen key all by myself
You would probably be genuinely astounded at the ability of an average diver to break, cock up and ruin their own dive gear.
To be honest, I'm not massively surprised that they didn't want to sell you the part, if nothing else it's much easier to take a reg in to a centre who can fit it FOC when you buy a DIN wheel from your local centre.
Personally, I see a DIN wheel as just as dangerous as a cylinder valve - get it wrong and it's the same 232 bar (or even 300 bar) that you're playing with, and that will kill you or anybody else just as easy if you do it wrong.
Digs.
There is no legal reason why you can't do anything but you have to watch the liability issue, especially if you are doing it for someone else. Some folk as Digger says are amazingly ham fisted.......
I am an engineer by profession and a medical gas Authorised Person to boot, I instruct and supervise others in what to do on presssure breathing systems , in fact I sign off competent persons for their tickets so I reckon I could be classed as competent![]()

Do you need insurance Rupert?

Of course, the argument falls down when you realise you can buy brake pads and discs for any car on the market pretty much.
And that isn't just a risk to you, that's a risk to the 20 schoolkids crossing the zebra crossing, and the other people on the motorway etc.

cheers guys it was my own reg
i appreciate its till the same pressure just that i cant understand why its ok fit a valve which may endager the dive shop?
the thing that really annoyed me is the guy who anwered the phone didnt even know if they were in stock never mind tell me they would need to fit it.
so i drive across town at peak hour get the above refusal and offered a FOC fiting with the suggestion if i had the reg on me they would do it there and then(although admittedly not explicitly said)so i drive home to get the reg and back again to be told i must book it in for a 30 sec job!hense i take my buisness elsewhere
the funny thing is the last time they serviced my regs they never even tightened the hoses into the 1st stage corectly!
sorry folks just having a rant while doing a bit of fact finding!ta much
rant away...there is a lot of it going on tonight......Bloody Mondays....![]()
