| I tried this about a month ago, I found that just diving in my shorts with my normal scuba rig I could decend no problem. I don't diving in my shorts much anyway so not much of an issue. What about a bit of polystyrene somewhere about your person?

I would have thought the only reason to need to ditch weights would be if you have lost your buoyacy control and find yourself negative....as log as you can swim your rig up to the surface and once there can establish positive buoyancy (ideally through redundant buoyancy) then it shouldn't be a problem.
