Overweighted?

After much checking I now find that I can descend or hold stops at the end of the dive with 50bar in my tanks and nothing on my weight belt. So if need to ditch weights at some point in the dive I have nothing to ditch.
Backplate is plastic. Twin 10's. (steel), virtually no ditachable weight except reel and dsmb and UKC8R torch.

Now what?
Matt

Eat lots of pies, or wear bulkier thermals.

I tried this about a month ago, I found that just diving in my shorts with my normal scuba rig I could decend no problem.

I don't diving in my shorts much anyway so not much of an issue.

What about a bit of polystyrene somewhere about your person?

Hello,

Are you complaining ! At the end why do you think you will need to ditch weight, apart from the surface?

Simon, I didn't understand this. Do you ditch the shorts in an emergency?

Hi Matt,

Your DSMB or even better a lift bag would provide extra bouyancy in an emergency.

Safe diving,
Steve.

I thought we only used weight to compensate for the buoyancy of our thermal protection etc, so it sounds like your rig is fine. Taking to extremes in rec diving the BC etc is supposedly only there to compensate for the negativity caused by the exposure protection being compressed, so if you are neutral without exposure protection then you arguable don't need weights or BC....this (I believe) is why the original warm water divers didn't use BCs or lead. Of course this doesn't account for the change in buoyancy as gas is consumed and so we now used lead and BC s on every dive.

I would have thought the only reason to need to ditch weights would be if you have lost your buoyacy control and find yourself negative....as log as you can swim your rig up to the surface and once there can establish positive buoyancy (ideally through redundant buoyancy) then it shouldn't be a problem.

By the way, I'm just waffling

Conor
