Viz Calculation

Had a curious discussion the other day regarding calculating viz distance and wondered how you decide on what viz is. I realise in the UK it's quite easy, you measure the distance along your arm !
The person i talked to ssaid he meaured by the depth on what he can see the surface. I thought that was false way and horizontal spacing was better, I personally use by body lengths as a measure and it's to a point where I can hardly see the person or object.
Do any one you have any other ways of measuring viz?

I can not do anything about the CRAP viz you bring with you , perhaps i'll change ya name next time ya booked on

If i think the viz is crap i will say so ,,,, if it's bad that i think i should not put divers in then i would express my concerns ...

If it's GOOD ( 10 mts plus ) i'll shout from the roofs ......

If when I let go of the shot I can still see it, then vis is greater than 1M, if I turn and can see the wreck, more than 2, if I can see left and right 2 ~5M any more than that in the UK would just confuse me!

Hm
Should we also allow for the 25% magnification of the water ?
I personaly think pepole have a tendancy to over exadurate the extent of the viz. As for how far you can see up to the surface just prooves the point.
